One chance encounter, one desperate search for a room, and a single night that could change everything. In this tenderly raw Taiwanese short film, Yu Xiang and Mark lock eyes in a crowded pub and feel an instant, undeniable spark. What begins as a straightforward plan for a one-night stand quickly unravels into something far more complicated—and unexpectedly profound. As they wander the streets hunting for an available space, the two men find themselves peeling back layers of pretense, revealing vulnerable truths about loneliness, desire, and the unexpected intimacy that can bloom when sex is taken off the table. The gritty, handheld cinematography mirrors the uncertainty of their journey, while quiet moments—a shared meal, a hesitant touch—speak louder than words. With only a few precious minutes to tell its story, *YuXiang and Mark* captures the bittersweet ache of two strangers who might just be looking for a connection that a hookup can't provide. It’s a melancholy yet hopeful snapshot of modern queer romance in Taipei, leaving viewers with an open ending that lingers long after the credits roll.

I actually loved the quiet vulnerability between Yu Xiang and Mark. Yes, the acting is a bit wooden and the filter is ugly, but the awkwardness felt real—like two people who don't know how to be soft with each other. That final scene broke my heart.

The gritty filter everyone hates? I actually didn't mind it—it gives a grungy, late-night vibe. But the lighting is inconsistent and some shots are out of focus. For a student short it's okay, but don't expect anything polished. The food scenes felt like filler.

I get what they were trying to say about connection beyond sex, but the execution is clumsy. The characters barely show any emotion, and the open ending feels lazy rather than artistic. A longer runtime could have helped, but as is, it's a forgettable 20 minutes.

For a 2016 short, I appreciate that it doesn't glamorize hookup culture—instead it shows the loneliness underneath. The consent is clear and non-problematic. But the stereotypical 'gay club' setting feels tired. Worth watching for discussion, not entertainment.

Gave this a 2.5/10 originally. It tried too hard to be deep and ended up confusing. The actors looked bored, the filter made everything dirty, and two food scenes in one night? Come on. I'm all for art house, but this missed the mark.
