I'm a sucker for anthology dramas that try something new, and My Universe gave me some real gems. 'Lucky Love' and 'You Are My Soul Mate' had me grinning ear to ear - the chemistry in those stories is everything I watch BL for. Yes, some segments drag with endless flashbacks, but when it's good, it's really good. I just wish they'd cut the filler and turn those two into full series!

The concept of 12 love stories in one universe is interesting, but the execution is a mess. At least half of the episodes could be cut by 50% if they removed the repetitive flashbacks of scenes we just watched. Some plots make no logical sense (why can't two people with social media find each other for years?). I appreciated the attempt at variety, but weak acting and plot holes ruined most arcs for me. A few like 'Right Time Right You' showed potential.

Cinematographically, this series is a mixed bag. Some segments have nice color grading and the little musical interludes that play during emotional beats are genuinely haunting and beautiful - they almost single-handedly elevated 'Lucky Love'. But most of the time the directing feels amateurish, with poorly framed shots and jarring cuts. The connecting universe idea is cute visually with recurring locations, but the inconsistent quality hurts the overall aesthetic.

As someone who analyzes consent and power dynamics in BL, My Universe was a frustrating watch. Several stories normalize aggressive pursuit, non-consensual touching, and even stalking as 'romantic'. 'Fake Love' and 'Pisces of Me' are particularly problematic, with blackmail and forced contact presented without critique. 'Friends Forever' at least shows consequences for abuse, but it's too little too late. The series needs a trigger warning list and a serious rethink of its messaging around consent.

I watched this mostly for the soundtrack, and honestly, the instrumental pieces that transition between scenes are straight-up gorgeous. That piano melody in 'Lucky Love' gets me every time. The sound design helps carry the emotional weight when the story stumbles. Some of the theme songs are catchy too. It's a shame the audio quality in a few segments is uneven, but for OST lovers, there's enough beauty here to justify a watch even if you skip through the flashbacks.
