What If is a tender, bite-sized Thai BL that explores the quiet, unspoken bond between two childhood neighbors, Peach and Smart. From sharing meals to navigating school pressures, they've always been each other's constant. But as they transition from adolescence to university life, the line between friendship and something deeper begins to blur. Smart, the younger and more studious one, harbors a secret crush, while the affectionate but oblivious Peach struggles with confusing jealousy and growing distance. Set against a backdrop of late-night study sessions, guitar melodies, and university freshy events, this mini-series is a gentle slice-of-life drama that leans heavily on atmosphere and unspoken tension. With only five episodes, it focuses on the simple, relatable moments of growing up and realizing that love might have been right next door all along. While the series is intentionally understated, its emotional core lies in the question: what if they had the courage to speak their feelings? A beautiful, if incomplete, meditation on first love and the fear of losing a best friend.

I loved how soft and sweet Peach and Smart were together—the quiet glances and the way Smart's face lights up when he smiles just melted my heart. The guitar scene was beautifully intimate, and I could feel the love even without words. But why, oh why did they end it like that? I need a second season to see them actually confess! Still, this is a cozy little gem for anyone who loves childhood friends.

The concept is nice, but the execution is frustratingly loose. There's almost no plot progression—just a series of cute montages that lead absolutely nowhere. The jealousy subplot with the friend felt forced and resolved too easily, and the ending isn't an ending; it's a pause button that someone forgot to unpause. I don't regret watching because the runtime is negligible, but this is a textbook example of wasted potential.

I'm a sucker for a good BL OST, and 'What If' delivered beautifully. The song Peach and Smart play together is so hauntingly lovely—I've had it on repeat for days. The music seamlessly carries the emotion when the dialogue can't. While I wish the series had an actual conclusion, the audio experience alone made it worth my time. If you appreciate original music in dramas, don't skip this.

This series is refreshingly innocent and avoids the toxic tropes often found in BL—no forced proximity, no manipulation. The leads clearly respect each other, and the tension is built on genuine care. However, I wish the show had given Smart more agency in expressing his feelings openly; the narrative feels like it's holding back. Also, the open ending undermines the emotional journey—it's like the creators gave up before letting the characters grow. Still, a safe watch for those new to the genre.

I was genuinely impressed by the visual direction—the warm color grading during childhood flashbacks versus the cooler tones in the university scenes did a lot of the emotional storytelling. The lingering close-ups during the guitar lesson were beautifully framed. Yes, the ending is a disaster, but I'd watch this again just for the soft lens focus on Smart's smile. It's a short visual poem, even if the last stanza got torn out.
