Return to the cozy, budget-conscious kitchen of Kakei Shiro and Yabuki Kenji in this heartwarming special that picks up where Season 1 left off. Shiro, the meticulous and frugal lawyer, and Kenji, the warm-hearted and slightly spendthrift hairstylist, are navigating a financial crunch while stubbornly clinging to their beloved 25,000 yen monthly food budget. As they juggle work stress and the everyday challenges of their long-term relationship, the special gently explores deeper themes: Shiro’s lingering anxieties about growing old together, his evolving relationship with his aging mother, and the quiet joys that come from sharing a home-cooked meal. Meanwhile, their friends Kohinata and Wataru continue their chaotic domestic comedy, offering a humorous contrast to Shiro and Kenji’s grounded partnership. Divided into three mini-arcs, this special is a love letter to domestic bliss, packed with mouthwatering step-by-step cooking sequences, tender moments of communication, and the unmistakable warmth of two imperfect men finding contentment in each other’s company. Whether you’re here for the food or the feels, this installment serves up another satisfying plate of gentle romance and real-life relationship wisdom—without ever losing its signature lighthearted charm.

I am absolutely in love with Shiro and Kenji! This special gave me even more of their sweet, quiet romance. The scene where they share the omurice after Kenji had planned to eat it alone just melted my heart. It's the little acts of togetherness that make this couple so special. More fluff, please!

It's a nice enough hour of television, but calling it a 'special' feels generous. It's really just three disjointed episodes stitched together without a central conflict. The Kohinata/Wataru segment felt like filler, and I wanted more development for Shiro's arc with his mother. Cute, but not essential.

As a longtime fan of the manga, I appreciate how faithfully this special adapts the side chapters. The omurice scene is perfect, and they even included the Mitsuya Mami cameo! My only complaint is they cut Kenji's internal monologue about the budgeting anxiety—it added more depth in the source material. Still, a worthy adaptation.

I love how this series normalizes a gay couple‘s mundane struggles without making their sexuality the central drama. The special continues that by focusing on financial teamwork and emotional vulnerability. However, I wish the Kohinata/Wataru dynamic wasn’t played entirely for laughs—the power imbalance there is real and could be handled more critically. Still, overall very positive representation.
