Zhou Shu Yi has spent his entire life chasing the number one spot—and for good reason. For over a decade, his childhood rival Gao Shi De has always been just ahead of him, in grades, in sports, in everything. To Shu Yi, this constant competition is a frustrating reminder of his own perceived inadequacy. But what he doesn't realize is that Shi De's relentless pursuit of first place isn't about winning at all—it's about getting Shu Yi's attention. Shi De has been secretly in love with him for years, and he'll take any excuse to stay close, even if it means being the enemy.

When a twist of fate forces Shu Yi to work as Shi De's page boy in exchange for keeping his secret crush on a female friend safe, their rivalry begins to soften into something unexpected. As they spend more time together, Shu Yi starts to see the tenderness beneath Shi De's confident exterior, and the walls he's built around his heart begin to crumble. Their relationship evolves from sharp bickering to playful teasing, from reluctant friendship to a deep, undeniable connection.

What makes *We Best Love: No. 1 For You* truly special is the raw emotional honesty at its core. Shi De's quiet, selfless devotion is heartbreaking in its vulnerability, while Shu Yi's gradual awakening to his own feelings is portrayed with breathtaking authenticity. From the unforgettable underwater kiss in the very first episode to the gut-wrenching confession on the bridge, every moment feels earned. With stellar performances from newcomers and veterans alike, this Taiwanese gem delivers a love story that is both achingly sincere and gloriously romantic—a perfect blend of humor, tension, and heart that will leave you counting down the days until the next season.

I haven't been this obsessed with a BL couple in years! Sam and YU are pure magic together. That underwater kiss in episode 1 had me screaming, and the bridge scene in episode 5? I sobbed like a baby. You can feel every ounce of Shi De's longing and Shu Yi's gradual realization. It's sweet, it's angsty, it's perfect. If you only watch one BL this year, make it this one.

I can see why people love the chemistry—it's genuinely great. But let's be honest: the plot is thin and relies heavily on tropes. The whole page boy setup is a bit forced, and some side characters (like the doctor) feel unnecessary or even creepy. That said, the main couple carries it well enough. I just wish the writing had more substance. Enjoyable but not groundbreaking.

Visually, this drama is a treat. The color grading leans into warm, nostalgic tones that perfectly match the 'coming of age' vibe. The underwater kiss is beautifully shot—crisp, flowing, and intimate. I also loved the creative transitions (shoutout to Mr. Skeleton!). Some handheld shots felt a bit shaky, but the overall aesthetic compensates for any budget limitations. A feast for the eyes.

The soundtrack is perfection. 'Aqua Blue' sung by YU himself gives me chills every time—it captures Shu Yi's emotional turmoil so well. 'Will You Be My Love' is so catchy that I've listened to it on repeat for weeks. Even the background score, though subtle, enhances every scene. The music team deserves huge applause. This drama wouldn't hit the same without its gorgeous OST.

I appreciate that the show doesn't shy away from addressing power dynamics—Shi De using Shu Yi's secret to get him to be his page boy is a bit of a red flag, but the narrative acknowledges it and the relationship evolves past that. Shu Yi's journey toward understanding his own queerness is handled with sensitivity, though his initial crush on a female friend feels like a heteronormative crutch. Overall, a solid step forward for Taiwanese BL in portraying healthy(ish) relationships.

Okay, I know everyone is here for Shu Yi and Shi De (and they are amazing), but can we talk about Dr. Pei Shou Yi? That character is an enigma—mysterious, slightly creepy, but so intriguing. I really hope Season 2 gives him more screen time and maybe his own love story. The crumbs we got were not enough! Also, Shu Yi's two friends are hilarious and deserve their own spin-off. So much potential in this universe.
