In the sun-drenched streets of a quiet Philippine province, Vince's life takes an unexpected turn when his friend Mariel introduces him to her cousin, Sid, who is visiting from bustling Manila for a vacation. Sid is charming, carefree, and radiating the kind of confidence that comes from being a city boy on holiday. Vince, a dignified and reserved gay man who has long accepted his place in the world, finds himself drawn to Sid's magnetic energy. What begins as a simple summer fling soon deepens into something more—a tender, hesitant romance built on stolen glances and fleeting moments. Yet, beneath the surface, Vince knows that Sid's stay is temporary, and the looming departure threatens to shatter the fragile connection they've forged. This heartfelt short film captures the bittersweet ache of loving someone who was never meant to stay, exploring themes of unrequited love, friendship, and the courage it takes to open your heart even when you know it might break. With its honest portrayal of queer longing and the quiet beauty of provincial life, *Wampipte* is a poignant slice-of-life story that lingers long after the credits roll.

I'm such a sucker for these quiet, aching love stories. Vince and Sid had this beautiful, hesitant chemistry that felt so real. The way Vince looks at Sid when he's not paying attention broke my heart. It's a short film but it left a lump in my throat.

The premise is cookie-cutter 'gay meets tourist, falls in love, gets abandoned'—nothing new. The pacing drags in the middle, and the dialogue feels stilted. It relies too heavily on sad looks and not enough on actual storytelling. The ending was predictable.

The cinematography is the real star here. The golden-hour lighting on the rice fields, the intimate framing of their conversations—it's gorgeously shot. I wish the script had matched the visual ambition, but as a short film, it wraps you in a beautiful, melancholic mood.

I appreciate that the film shows a reserved gay man who isn't forced into a stereotypical 'coming out' narrative. The power dynamic with the temporary guest is handled gently, though I wish there was more conversation about boundaries. It's a decent representation of unrequited love without being exploitative.

The background score is simple but effective—a soft guitar melody that repeats with slight variations, mirroring the longing. There's a song playing during their last scene that hit me right in the feels. Sound design-wise, it's minimal but impactful.
