In the tender Filipino short film *Waiting until the Dawn*, grief meets the impossible weight of a buried truth. The story follows a man named Leo, who must deliver the eulogy at the funeral of his longtime partner, Miguel — a man who lived his entire life in the closet, never revealing his sexuality to family or friends. As Leo stands before a crowd of mourners unaware of their relationship, he grapples with a heart-wrenching decision: honor the love he shared with Miguel by speaking his truth, or protect Miguel’s memory from judgment and rejection. Through poignant flashbacks of stolen moments, whispered promises, and quiet intimacy, the film explores the profound cost of hidden love and the courage it takes to finally say goodbye — not just to a person, but to a love story that the world never saw. A beautifully acted, deeply emotional drama that resonates long after the credits roll.

I couldn't stop crying. The way Leo looked at Miguel in the flashbacks — that's real love. It's so unfair they couldn't hold hands in public, but the film made me feel every stolen glance and whispered 'I love you.' That eulogy scene destroyed me in the best way.

Visually stunning for a short film. The soft, golden-hour lighting during their memories contrasts so sharply with the cold, muted colors of the funeral home. Every shot feels intentional — the director knows how to use silence and space to amplify emotion.

The emotion is genuine, but I wish the script had given us more context about Miguel's family dynamics. Some of the flashback transitions felt abrupt, and the runtime could have used an extra 10 minutes to flesh out supporting characters. Still, the lead's performance carries it.

This film handles the closet trauma with incredible sensitivity. It doesn't villainize Miguel's family but shows the suffocating pressure of societal expectations. The eulogy dilemma is a powerful metaphor for reclaiming one's narrative. A necessary watch for understanding the emotional cost of homophobia.

The piano score is absolutely haunting — it swells just when your heart needs to break. There's a song played during the final flashback that I've already replayed a dozen times. The music doesn't just accompany the story; it becomes the voice of the love they couldn't say out loud.
