Filmed entirely on an iPhone during the strictest days of Manila's COVID-19 lockdown, *Unlocked* is a groundbreaking nine-episode anthology that captures the raw, unfiltered emotions of queer love under quarantine. Director Adolfo Alix Jr. weaves together a tapestry of stories—from a heartbroken young man hiring a rent boy for a night of unexpected healing, to a toxic college couple forced to confront their cracks, and a teenage mute boy finding unexpected connection with a mischievous neighbor. Each episode, titled simply after its characters, explores a different facet of LGBTQ+ relationships: long-distance longing, family secrets, the ghost of a lost father, and even a surreal encounter with one's own doppelgänger. While the pandemic serves as the backdrop, the series never romanticizes confinement; instead, it digs into the vulnerability, fear, and resilience that arise when people are locked in with their partners, families, or themselves. With a bittersweet yet hopeful tone, *Unlocked* reminds us that love—in all its forms—remains the tie that binds, even when the world outside falls apart.

I cried so much watching 'Andrew & Brix' — the way two strangers found comfort and maybe love in one night just felt so real. The chemistry between Markki Stroem and Mike Liwag is electric, and the slow, hesitant touches during the lockdown setting broke my heart. This anthology understands that quarantine love isn't about grand gestures; it's about showing up, even through a screen.

I appreciate what *Unlocked* was trying to do, but too many episodes left me scratching my head. For example, in 'Greg & Harold,' I still don't know what happened to the husband — did he die or just leave? And 'Ivan & Jack' never explains how the mother found out about her son's work. Some stories feel rushed and the iPhone aesthetic, while understandable, can be distracting. Still, the acting is solid and the emotional beats land when the writing allows.

What struck me most is how the series refuses to sanitize the pandemic experience for queer Filipinos. The episode 'Luke & Matt' beautifully explores grief and reconciliation with a deceased father's lover, tackling homophobic family dynamics head-on. And 'Pancho, Quinn & Ryan' shows the messy reality of open relationships without judgment. It's not always comfortable, but it's necessary viewing for anyone wanting to understand how marginalized communities navigated 2020.

The music by Mikoy Morales and Alex Diaz is absolutely stunning! Each piece perfectly underscores the longing and isolation of lockdown. The theme that plays during 'Eli & Frankie' — with its haunting piano — nearly broke me. I've added the OST to my daily playlist. Even if some episodes are uneven, the sound design alone makes this a must-watch for music lovers.

For a show shot on an iPhone, the cinematography is incredibly evocative. The tight framing inside apartments emphasizes claustrophobia, and the use of natural light makes every scene feel like a documentary. The episode 'Kyle & Kyle' is a visual standout — the doppelgänger sequences are cleverly lit and eerily beautiful. Yes, you can tell it's not a high-budget production, but that rawness adds to the authenticity.
