A heartwarming and unexpectedly hilarious Filipino film that redefines the modern family, *The Third Party* follows Andi, an ambitious events manager with dreams of becoming a fashion designer, and her ex-boyfriend Max, a successful cosmetic surgeon. After their breakup, the two navigate the messy, often absurd journey of keeping their bond alive—until Max begins a new relationship with a charming gay man named Leo. What starts as a comedic love triangle soon blossoms into a profound exploration of forgiveness, self-acceptance, and the many shapes love can take. With a clever script by director Jason Paul Laxamana that balances lighthearted humor with genuine emotional depth, this film surprises at every turn. It’s a story about chosen families, second chances, and the courage to live your truth—all wrapped in a warm, hopeful glow. A standout in Filipino BL cinema, *The Third Party* is both a laugh-out-loud comedy and a tender reminder that love doesn’t have to fit a traditional mold.

I went in expecting a simple love triangle but got so much more. The chemistry between Max and Leo felt so natural, and I loved how Andi wasn't just a bitter ex—she was a fully realized character. The ending had me in tears, but in the best way. This is what BL should be: messy, real, and full of hope.

The directing and cinematography surprised me—clean shots, warm color grading, and a real eye for framing emotional moments. The hospital scene between Max and Leo is beautifully lit. It's not a big-budget film, but it punches above its weight visually. A treat for anyone who appreciates thoughtful composition.

I enjoyed the film, but the pacing drags a bit in the second act, and some comedic scenes feel a little forced. Max's sudden acceptance of his sexuality could have used more buildup. Still, the emotional payoffs work, and the performances are solid. Not groundbreaking, but a good watch.

Finally, a BL film that treats bisexuality with respect and doesn't villainize the female lead. Andi's journey of self-worth and the way the story normalizes co-parenting and chosen family are exactly what we need more of. It's a progressive, warm film that handles consent and identity with care. Highly recommend.
