Chan is a horror novelist whose overactive imagination turns everyday life into a spine-tingling ghost story—except he knows the spooks are all in his head. That is, until he meets Min, a charming and mysterious stranger who seems to attract the supernatural like a magnet. Suddenly, Chan’s fictional phantoms start appearing for real, and he’s forced to confront his deepest fears with Min by his side. As they navigate haunted encounters, laugh-out-loud mishaps, and a slowly deepening bond, Chan discovers that love might be the most terrifying—and wonderful—ghost of all. Blending campy scares with genuine heart, The Spooky Love Tale is a uniquely Thai BL that finds romance where the living and the dead collide, promising a slow-burn love story wrapped in cozy chills.

I went in expecting just another ghost story, but the chemistry between Santa and Perth is electric! Their bickering turned to soft glances and then to holding hands under a flickering light—I was kicking my feet. The horror is campy but not too scary, and the romance is so tender. Perfect comfort watch for spooky season.

I wanted to love it more, but the pacing feels off. The first few episodes are great at setting up the ghost rules, then they kind of abandon them for a stretched-out romance subplot. Some logical gaps (why can Min suddenly see ghosts too?) bothered me. Still, the leads are charming enough to carry it. Not my favorite, but decent for a low-stakes watch.

Visually this is a treat! The cinematography uses warm, cozy lighting inside Chan's apartment contrasted with cold, blue-tinted ghost scenes—it really sells the mood. The ghost designs are creative and almost cute, not terrifying. I also loved the subtle color grading that shifts as the romance grows. A feast for the eyes for sure.

The OST is surprisingly catchy—especially the main theme that blends a spooky music box melody with a soft pop beat. It plays during the sweet moments and the spooky ones, and it ties the whole vibe together. Not a show-stopping soundtrack, but it's memorable enough that I added a few tracks to my playlist. Would love more variety in the background scores though.

From a social perspective, I appreciate that Chan's fear of ghosts is treated with respect—Min never forces him into scary situations, and there's clear communication. The slow burn allows them to build trust before any physical touch, which feels healthy for a supernatural romance. My only gripe is the lack of queer side characters, but the main couple's dynamic is refreshingly consent-focused.
