Former K-pop idol Pei Jia, his career shattered by a scandal, attempts a comeback by starring in a low-budget BL drama. To his surprise, his co-star is Su Yi, a bright-eyed rookie with zero acting experience—and a longtime fan of Pei Jia. Forced to live together to build on-screen chemistry, the two navigate awkward rehearsals, playful banter, and the slow unraveling of their guarded hearts. But behind the camera, a manipulative producer with a dark agenda looms, and Su Yi harbors a secret illness that threatens to extinguish his light. This is a bittersweet, meta love story about finding solace in another’s eyes—even when the world goes dark.

I came for the fluff of a fan meeting his idol, but I stayed for the heartbreak. Pei Jia and Su Yi have this quiet, desperate chemistry that aches beautifully. The way Pei Jia’s walls slowly crumble and Su Yi’s spark fades then returns—I cried so much. Yes, the kisses are a bit stiff, but their longing gazes say more than any lip-lock could. This is real love, messy and precious.

The acting saves this from being a total mess, but the writing is all over the place. The main couple’s romance jumps from 0 to 100 because of one dinner question? And Pei Jia’s vagueness about the predator producer is infuriatingly convenient for drama. The tumor subplot feels tacked on, and the ending just… stops. A tighter script could have made this a gem, but as is, it’s frustrating to sit through.

For a low-budget series, the cinematography is stunning. Every beachside scene is drenched in soft, melancholic light, and the color grading shifts from warm golden to cold blue as the tone darkens. The directors use mirrors and reflections cleverly to show emotional distance. Even the awkward kiss angles are visually interesting. I wish the editing had the same care—some cuts were jarring—but overall, it’s a feast for the eyes.

I appreciate that the show doesn’t shy away from depicting sexual coercion and the silencing of victims. But I’m troubled by how Pei Jia almost plays the assault recording without Su Yi’s explicit consent—that’s a serious violation. Also, the age gap (Su Yi is 19, Pei Jia mid-late 20s) is never addressed, leaving an unsettling power imbalance. It’s a step forward for representation of trauma, but it fumbles the ethics.

I’m absolutely obsessed with the OST. That piano theme that swells every time Su Yi looks at Pei Jia—it’s like a musical hug and punch at the same time. The lyrics speak directly to the story: ‘even if you lose your sight, I’ll be your sparkle.’ The song plays maybe a bit too often, but honestly? I never got tired of it. The music alone makes this a must-watch for emotional resonance.
