Hyun Taek Ki is a 40-year-old poet whose life has become a quiet prison of unmet expectations. His marriage is strained by financial struggles and his inability to conceive a child, while his creative well has long run dry. But when he meets a free-spirited young man who sees beauty in his forgotten poems, Taek Ki is pulled into a tender, forbidden connection that forces him to confront the painful gap between the life he’s living and the one he’s always wanted. Set against the muted streets of Seoul, this intimate indie film peels back the layers of a closeted gay man’s reality—the suffocating weight of societal norms, the women who love and control them, and the quiet courage it takes to finally feel seen. Blending melancholic poetry with raw human emotion, *The Poet and The Boy* is a poignant, necessary watch that doesn’t flinch from the messy truth of love and identity.

A real-world view that is an important watch. I loved the way it was shot. The actors gave great performances. It's a quiet indie but with a great production budget. This happens ALL the time more often than not. If you didn't know it then you don't know enough LGBT people who have had to spend their lives in pain and in the closet. An important film to help train society on what really happens. Brava to South Korea for making this.

My heart ached for Taek Ki and the boy. Their quiet moments together—reading poetry, sharing a glance—felt more romantic than any kiss. I wish we got more of their sweetness, but the tragedy of their situation made every second precious. These two broke me in the best way.

I respect the film's intentions but the pacing drags in the middle and some scenes feel repetitive. The wife's character is underwritten, and the resolution leaves too many threads dangling. It's a slow-burn that never quite catches fire for me, though the final scene is haunting.

Visually, this film is a masterpiece. Every frame is composed like a photograph—the muted colors, the way shadows fall across faces, the long silences. The director uses space and light to show the isolation of the poet's world. I’d watch it again just for the cinematography alone.

The piano score in this film is exquisite. It swells softly during the emotional beats and leaves silence when words fail. I found myself searching for the soundtrack after watching. The music carries the weight of the unspoken love—absolutely essential to the atmosphere.
