A quiet, melancholic schoolyard in South Korea sets the stage for this intimate short film, *The Perfect Man's Man*. Hye Sung Won is a boy burdened by his own perceived flaws, forever in the shadow of his brilliant and seemingly flawless friend, Jeong Hyuk Moon. Their bond is deep, but a recent betrayal has shattered it, leaving Hye Sung Won drowning in guilt and unable to face his cherished companion. As he attempts to rationalize his actions and mend what is broken, the film gently peels back layers of adolescent insecurity, unspoken longing, and the painful gap between how we see ourselves and how others see us. Through stolen glances, a tender piano melody, and a cryptic notebook that holds the key to their hidden feelings, this 27-minute gem captures the raw, awkward beauty of first love and the agonizing weight of a mistake. It's a slice-of-life drama that lingers, much like a half-remembered dream, reminding us that even the perfect have their cracks.

I'm a sucker for awkward first love, and this short film delivered! The way Hye Sung Won looks at Jeong Hyuk Moon absolutely melts my heart. That piano scene? I rewatched it three times. Sure, it's not polished, but the raw emotion is exactly what I needed. I just wish the notebook thing was clearer – still, I'm giving it an 8 for the feels.

For a 27-minute runtime, the story is surprisingly muddled. The central betrayal and guilt are hinted at but never fully explained, and that mysterious notebook seems like a lazy plot device. The acting is amateurish but at least the boys have some chemistry. It's charming in a 'friend's school project' way, but I wouldn't call it a well-constructed film. A solid 6 for effort.

The music in this short film is honestly its strongest asset. The piano piece that plays during the most emotional moments perfectly captures the bittersweet tension between the boys. I found myself humming it for days. If only the rest of the production matched that quality – the acting is rough and the sound mixing could be better. Still, for the soundtrack alone, I recommend it to any BL fan who appreciates musical atmosphere.

As a short film about adolescent guilt and unspoken attraction, it touches on interesting themes of toxic self-perception and the pressure to be perfect. However, I found the portrayal of 'betrayal' vague and the power dynamics between the two boys underdeveloped. The lack of clear communication reinforces harmful tropes about needing to suffer in silence. It's not a bad watch, but from a consent and emotional health perspective, it left me wanting a more honest resolution.

Despite the low budget, there are some genuinely lovely shots – the soft focus on the boys in the schoolyard, the warm lighting during the coffee scene, and the way the camera lingers on small gestures. It feels like a faded photograph of a memory. The editing is a bit rough in places, but the visual tone sets a perfect nostalgic mood. I wish more modern BLs would embrace this kind of gentle, unpretentious style.
