Caught in the hazy, golden light of a summer that feels both endless and fleeting, Ju Do-wan and Kim Jae-yul are navigating the bittersweet final season of high school. They’re best friends – comfortable, teasing, inseparable – but beneath the playful banter and shared watermelon snacks, Do-wan’s heart beats with a secret he’s terrified to name. As the cicadas drone on and the days grow hotter, the arrival of a new, charming sunbae forces Do-wan to confront his feelings head-on. Will confessing shatter their perfect friendship, or will Jae-yul’s own hidden emotions finally find their voice? The Nameless Season is a tender, achingly relatable micro-series that captures the nervous thrill of first love, the warmth of loyal friends, and the courage it takes to put a name to what your heart already knows.

I am absolutely smitten! Do-wan and Jae-yul's little glances, the shy brushes of fingers – my heart could barely take it. This is exactly the kind of soft, realistic friends-to-lovers story I've been craving. The watermelon pool scene? Pure fluff perfection. Ignore the haters, this show is a warm hug.

I get the appeal, I really do. The leads have nice chemistry, but let’s be honest – basically nothing happens for four episodes. The pacing is glacial even for a slow burn, and the dialogue drags in spots. A sweet little snack, but I wouldn't call it a meal. Enjoyable background noise while working.

For a micro-budget series, the visual storytelling is surprisingly effective. The golden-hour sunlight filtering through the school windows, the intimate framing of their faces, the way summer heat is almost palpable – it adds so much emotional weight. Simple but beautiful.

What a relief to watch a BL where communication and consent are central, even in a high school setting. No dubious power dynamics, no forced kisses – Do-wan’s internal hesitation is treated with respect, and Jae-yul’s response is gentle. This is the healthy, affirming queer youth content I wish I'd had growing up.

The background score does a lot of heavy lifting here – those soft guitar riffs during the confession scenes really hit the right emotional note. It’s subtle, not overpowering, but it makes the summer nostalgia even stronger. Wish the OST was released separately so I could loop it!
