In the quiet, post-pandemic haze of Taipei, Tien and Jay continue their annual ritual—a single day of intimacy that has defined their relationship for five years. They are fuckbuddies who exist in a carefully maintained bubble, exchanging casual conversation, smoke, and physical comfort before returning to their separate lives. But this year, the routine is shattered when Jay suffers a sudden heart attack mid-encounter. In those terrifying moments, the unspoken weight of their arrangement surfaces, forcing Tien to confront the fragile, fleeting nature of their connection. Directed with a delicate, minimalist touch, this 16-minute short film explores the spaces between words—the longing, the vulnerability, and the quiet tragedy of loving someone without ever truly claiming them. A poignant meditation on modern intimacy and the silent agreements we make to protect our hearts, *The Morning After* lingers long after the credits roll.

I didn't expect such a short film to hit me this hard. The chemistry between Tien and Jay is so quiet yet electric—you can feel the years of unspoken history in every glance. That one kiss felt more intimate than whole series of love scenes. The ending left me with a lump in my throat. Absolutely worth the 16 minutes.

I appreciate the attempt at emotional realism, but the short runtime makes the heart attack feel like a convenient plot device rather than an organic development. We're told about the annual meetups but never shown enough to truly invest in their dynamic. It's well-acted and visually pleasant, but the story needed at least twice the length to earn its dramatic weight.

Visually, this film is a masterclass in minimalist storytelling. The muted color palette, shallow depth of field, and natural lighting create an aching sense of isolation that mirrors the characters' emotional distance. The way the camera lingers on their hands and faces during the smoking scene says more than any dialogue could. Every frame feels intentional and beautiful.

I appreciate that the film doesn't shy away from the complexities of a friends-with-benefits arrangement, especially the power dynamics and emotional risks. The heart attack scene forces a conversation about care and vulnerability that their casual setup avoided. However, I wish the film had addressed the consent and communication (or lack thereof) more explicitly—it feels like a missed opportunity to model healthy behavior.
