In the bustling, neon-lit streets of Hong Kong, a filmmaker arrives with a clear-cut mission: document the construction of the city's upcoming Disneyland as a symbol of globalized fantasy. But as he navigates the chaotic energy of the metropolis, his lens is irresistibly drawn to the messy, magnetic lives of the locals he encounters. From a charismatic street performer nursing a broken heart to a mysterious man whose silences speak volumes, each encounter peels back layers of the filmmaker’s own carefully guarded emotions. The boundary between observer and participant blurs, leading him down a path of unexpected intimacy, self-discovery, and the raw, unpolished map of love that exists far beyond any theme park. A quiet, contemplative queer drama from early-2000s Hong Kong cinema, this film weaves a dreamlike narrative about the detours life takes when we stop chasing a predetermined destination and start following the heart.

I went in expecting a straightforward romance, but this film is more of a mood piece. The cinematography is stunning—every frame feels like a painting of Hong Kong in transition. The lead's quiet vulnerability really grew on me. Not for everyone, but if you like introspective queer cinema, give it a chance.

I appreciate the attempt at a meditative queer drama, but this bored me to tears. Nothing happens for long stretches, and the 'disneyland' metaphor feels half-baked. The characters are too distant to root for. I can see why it's a cult item, but it just didn't land for me.

As a historical piece, this is fascinating—early 2000s Hong Kong queer representation that's neither tragic nor flamboyant, just achingly human. The pacing is a struggle, and the sound design is rough, but the genuine tenderness between the leads makes it worth the watch for completists.

The score is hauntingly beautiful, with ambient city noises and a sparse piano melody that really fits the lonely vibe. But the film itself drags too much for me to stay fully engaged. I'd listen to the OST again, but I wouldn't rewatch the movie.

There's something to be said about the way this film handles queer desire in a repressive era—it's subtle and respectful. But the power dynamics in one of the central interactions felt a bit ambiguous without enough narrative payoff. It's an important artifact but not a satisfying story.
