In the hauntingly beautiful series *The Heart of Tsukuyomi*, grief and desire intertwine under the shadow of a moon god. After the death of their father, two estranged souls—Yuewen, a man bound by loyalty to his long-term fiancée, and Gushan, the adopted son left behind in Japan—are thrust together to settle the estate. Gushan, fragile and starved for affection, clings to the only person who offers him care, while Yuewen finds himself drawn to his new brother in ways he never expected. As they navigate inherited trauma, a mysterious blue mushroom poison, and visions of the moon deity Tsukuyomi, their bond deepens into a forbidden romance. But when reality crashes in with wedding plans and unspoken truths, the series delivers a devastatingly raw exploration of love, loss, and the quiet agony of being abandoned. With just seven intense episodes, this Chinese BL drama trades fluff for emotional realism, making every moment count.

I was completely drawn in by the intense chemistry between Yuewen and Gushan. The intimate scenes were beautifully shot and felt so real. However, the ending broke my heart - I understand the realism but I wanted them to have a happy ending. Still, it's a memorable watch for the emotional depth.

The concept is interesting but the execution falls flat. The pacing is too rushed for only 7 episodes, and the character motivations are unclear. Why does Yuewen suddenly fall for his adopted brother? The ending feels cheap and abrupt. The chemistry is okay but not enough to save a messy plot.

While the show explores grief and attachment realistically, it glosses over the problematic power dynamics. Yuewen's indecision and emotional manipulation of Gushan are never critically addressed. The cheating storyline is uncomfortable and the ending seems to punish the vulnerable character. Important themes but handled without nuance.

This is a visually stunning series. The color grading shifts from warm honey tones to cool blue as the story turns tragic. The use of light and shadow in the mushroom shed scenes is masterful. Every frame feels intentional. Even if the story has flaws, the cinematography alone makes it worth watching.

The OST perfectly captures the melancholic and yearning mood of the series. The instrumental pieces during the intimate scenes are hauntingly beautiful. I've been listening to the score on repeat. It elevates the emotional impact even when the plot falters.
