The Gaze serves up a volatile mix of obsession, contract dynamics, and slow-burn redemption in the world of competitive tennis. Zhai Qiu Yu is the undisputed king of the court—cold, calculating, and used to getting what he wants. When he hires Li You En, a resilient team doctor, under a strict contract, he expects nothing more than professional service. But what begins as a transactional arrangement quickly spirals into a battlefield of unspoken desires, power plays, and buried trauma. As Zhai’s icy exterior cracks, Li You En must navigate not only his own complicated past but also the scorching intensity of a man who doesn’t know how to love—only to possess. With stunning cinematography, a haunting OST, and a second couple that brings its own brand of artistic angst, The Gaze is a tense, emotionally charged ride that asks: can control ever truly become care?

I came for the main couple but stayed for the second leads! The artist and photographer had way more chemistry and their pottery scene is burned into my memory. Main couple was too toxic for me, but the side story saved the show. Just wish they got more screentime.

No hate to the actors, but the writing is a mess. The contract plot makes zero sense—how did he wire money to loan sharks without asking for an account number? And the goldfish bowl abuse was honestly triggering. If you want toxic with actual plot, read the Jinx manhwa instead.

Never mind the questionable plot—that soundtrack is pure gold! The main theme gave me chills every time Zhai walked onto the court. I’ve already added it to my playlist. Even if the story doesn’t stick, I’ll be humming these tunes for months.

I can't in good conscience recommend a show that romanticizes coercion and non-consensual touching. The power imbalance is never properly addressed, and the redemption arc feels forced. The second couple was slightly better, but the main romance left a bad taste. We need to expect more from BL.

As a huge fan of the Jinx webtoon, I was excited but ended up disappointed. This is basically a watered-down, no-NC version of that story with tennis instead of boxing. If they had credited Mingwa, I might have been okay with it. The acting is fine, but it’s just not the same without the emotional punch of the original.
