In the bustling streets of Bangkok, chance brings Chai, a quiet waiter with a warm smile, and Eak, a weary office worker seeking solace, together in a modest restaurant. What begins as a simple exchange of pleasantries slowly blossoms into an unexpected friendship, then deepens into something more tender. Over shared meals and stolen glances, these two lonely souls navigate the delicate transition from strangers to lovers, facing the quiet fears and societal pressures that come with embracing their truth. 'The First Love' is a gentle, achingly sweet short film that captures the fragile beauty of first love—the hesitations, the butterflies, and the quiet courage it takes to open your heart. With its intimate storytelling and natural performances, this Thai gem from 2012 reminds us that sometimes the most profound connections begin with a simple hello.

I absolutely melted watching Chai and Eak. Their chemistry is so soft and natural—every small smile and lingering look felt real. It's simple but that's what makes it beautiful. Modern BL could learn from this gentle sincerity!

The acting is decent, but there's barely any story here. It's literally just two guys meeting and falling in love without any real conflict or development. For a 20-minute short it's fine, but as a film it's too shallow to leave a lasting impression.

The warm, muted color palette and the intimate framing of the restaurant scenes create a cozy atmosphere. But the lighting is uneven and the camera work feels amateurish in places. It's charming but technically rough.

While the film tries to be sweet, I was uncomfortable with how quickly the relationship escalates without clear communication. There's a scene where one character almost forces a kiss—played as romantic, but it borders on ignoring consent. For its time it's okay, but we expect better awareness now.

The background music is minimal but perfectly placed—a soft piano melody that underscores the quiet moments. It's not a standout OST, but it fits the film's gentle vibe like a glove. I'd listen to the track again.
