Set against the tender backdrop of a Taiwanese high school, 'The End of Our Youth' is a luminous short film that captures the fragile, fleeting moment when friendship blossoms into something deeper—and more complicated. Liu and Tseng are inseparable classmates, sharing secret smiles and the quiet comfort of teenage camaraderie. But on the eve of graduation, Tseng’s confession of love sends ripples through their bond. What follows is not a fairy-tale romance, but a raw and honest exploration of identity, vulnerability, and the painful awkwardness of navigating first love when the world isn’t ready. As graduation looms, the two boys must confront not only their feelings for each other but also the weight of societal expectations and the fear of being seen. Directed with a gentle, almost documentary-like intimacy, this film prioritizes emotional truth over melodrama, offering a bittersweet glimpse into the beauty and ache of coming out in an era when acceptance was far from guaranteed. The ending—open and haunting—will linger long after the credits roll, inviting viewers to imagine the countless possible futures for these two young souls. Perfect for fans of understated, character-driven stories that honor the messy reality of youthful love.

I've watched countless BL dramas, but this one broke me. The way they capture that awkwardness after confessing—so real! I cried because I saw my own story. The actors are gorgeous and the music is so soft. Not a cliché happy ending, but it's perfect for the story. A true masterpiece of youth.

I appreciate the honest depiction of first love, but the pacing drags—nothing much happens for the first 20 minutes. The ending feels abrupt, like they ran out of budget. It's a decent short film, but not groundbreaking. For a 40-minute runtime, I expected more development.

Visually, this is one of the most beautiful BL shorts I've seen. The use of natural light, the lingering shots of empty hallways, the way the camera captures the distance between the two boys—stunning. The cinematography alone makes it worth watching, even if the story is simple.

This film gets the emotional reality of coming out right. The fear, the shame, the way even a best friend can hesitate—it's not dramatized, it's just... true. I love that it doesn't sugarcoat the pain of hiding your identity. A must-watch for anyone who wants to understand the psychological toll of the closet.

The music is the real star here. That gentle piano theme that plays during the confession scene gave me chills. It perfectly matches the melancholic tone. I just wish there were more tracks—the score is too sparse. Still, I've been humming that melody for days.
