Tae is a young, openly gay footballer with a secret crush on Bhu, a handsome physiotherapist who was his senior at university. When his supportive housemate Namwhan gives him a mystical crystal paired with an edelweiss scent, a wish accidentally summons a charming, otherworldly cupid named Nite. Nite, a bumbling yet endearing god of love, is bound to help Tae win his crush's heart. But as Tae and Nite spend time together—exploring temples, sharing ice cream, and navigating the ups and downs of everyday life—their connection deepens beyond a simple matchmaking mission. This Thai fantasy rom-com is a refreshing departure from typical BL tropes: the lead is unapologetically gay from the start, the female friend is a strong, supportive presence, and the drama unfolds through genuine conversations rather than manufactured crises. Filmed against the beautiful backdrops of Khon Kaen and Chiang Mai, *The Cupid Coach* blends magical realism with heartfelt moments, though production was famously disrupted by COVID, leading to an unexpected and bittersweet shift in its final episodes. It's a charming, low-budget series that dares to take risks with its narrative, offering a unique take on love, loss, and moving on.

I absolutely adored this series despite its flaws. Yes, the production is rough and the ending threw me for a loop, but the chemistry between Tae and Nite (both versions!) was so genuine and sweet. I loved that the main character was already out and proud, and the way the story dealt with loss and moving on really touched my heart. If you want something fluffy yet unexpectedly deep, give this a chance.

I can see why some people like this, but the narrative is a mess. The first eight episodes drag with filler and inconsistent magic rules, then suddenly everything changes because of COVID. The final four episodes feel like a completely different show with a new love interest, and the original cupid's story is never resolved. I appreciate the lack of toxic tropes, but a coherent plot would have been nice. Watch at your own risk.

The music in this show is surprisingly catchy—that main OST wormed its way into my brain and won't leave. The use of classical pieces like Grieg's 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' was a fun touch. But the sound mixing is atrocious in places, with background noise drowning out dialogue. The score carries the emotional weight when the acting can't. A mixed bag, but the songs are worth a listen on their own.

This series gets major points for its progressive social values. No fem-shaming, no toxic female characters, and the main character is openly gay from the start without any angst. The female friend is a strong, independent woman who handles rejection with dignity. However, the one-night-stand scenario in the later episodes raises some consent questions with alcohol involved, and the sudden shift in love interest feels abrupt. Still, for a low-budget BL, it's refreshingly non-toxic.

I wanted to love this for its beautiful Chiang Mai locations, but the cinematography is painfully amateurish. Shaky pans, awkward zooms, and inconsistent lighting plague the first half. The magical effects look like they were done on a smartphone. The production value improves noticeably in the final four episodes—better camera work and styling—but it's too little, too late. Visually, it's a missed opportunity to showcase Thailand's natural beauty.
