Set against the hazy, golden backdrop of a sweltering Korean summer, *That Summer's Unrequited Love* is a tender, bite-sized web series that captures the ache of loving someone who sees you only as a friend. Jiho and Minseok have been inseparable since childhood, but for Jiho, every shared laugh, accidental touch, and late-night call carries a weight Minseok never notices. When the two end up spending their final summer before university together in a sleepy seaside town, long-buried feelings bubble to the surface. Through stolen glances, bracing swims, and quiet confessions under the stars, Jiho must decide whether revealing his heart is worth risking the only friendship that matters. This short series distills the universal agony of unrequited love into a few perfectly crafted episodes, offering a soft, sincere exploration of identity, vulnerability, and the courage it takes to say 'I like you.' Perfect for fans of understated, emotional storytelling, *That Summer's Unrequited Love* proves that even the smallest moments can leave the deepest marks.

I am completely shattered in the best way. Jiho’s eyes say everything his lips can’t, and that final confession scene had me sobbing. This is what pure, aching first love feels like. Perfect slow-burn with a payoff that makes every second worth it!

Objectively, the pacing is a bit too leisurely even for a short series, and some side characters feel like cardboard. The emotional beats are predictable if you've seen any coming-of-age BL before. That said, the lead actor’s performance is genuinely poignant and carries the whole thing.

The color grading in this series is nothing short of breathtaking — every sunset scene is drenched in honey-gold warmth, and the shallow depth-of-field shots of Jiho watching Minseok from across the room are pure art. It’s like watching a moving photo album of a perfect summer.

I appreciated that the series doesn’t pressure Jiho to confess — it respects his internal timeline and the complexity of coming out to a close friend. However, I wish Minseok’s reaction had delved deeper into his own sexuality discovery rather than just a simple reciprocal confession. Still, a mature take on consent and emotional safety.

The soundtrack is an absolute gem — the main piano motif repeats during each key emotional beat, and the indie folk song that plays during the beach scene perfectly captures that 'I'm falling but I'm scared' feeling. I've already added three tracks to my summer playlist!
