In this poignant Taiwanese short film, Joey finds himself trapped in a quiet cycle of waiting—waiting for Alan, his office crush, to notice him, to love him back. Day after day, their friendship remains a careful dance of unspoken feelings and stolen glances. But as Joey walks the lonely path between hope and resignation, he begins to realize that his love might be a one-way street. 'Tanabata' delicately explores the ache of secret admiration and the bittersweet moment of letting go. Through beautifully understated moments—shared lunches, awkward silences, the weight of a text left unread—the film captures the universal experience of yearning for someone who may never see you the same way. More than a romance, it's a meditation on self-worth and the courage it takes to stop waiting and start living. With its gentle pacing and raw performances, 'Tanabata' offers a quietly devastating yet hopeful reflection on love, loneliness, and the freedom found in releasing an impossible dream.

I absolutely adored the raw vulnerability in this short film. Joey's silent longing felt so real—I cried when he finally walked away under the tanabata tree. The chemistry between the leads is understated but electric. A beautiful, aching little gem.

The film's atmosphere is lovely, but honestly, not much happens. It's 20 minutes of staring and sighing. I get the emotional intent, but for a short film, I needed a bit more narrative momentum. Still, the performances are decent for the limited material.

Visually stunning! Every frame is like a soft watercolor painting. The use of natural light, the shallow depth of field in the office scenes, and the blue-gold color palette during the festival—it's all meticulously crafted. A masterclass in showing emotion through imagery.

I appreciate how the film focuses on one-sided feelings without romanticizing obsession. Joey's arc is about self-respect and recognizing when to let go. It's a healthy depiction of unrequited love—painful but without toxic pursuit. A good conversation starter about boundaries.

The piano score is heartbreakingly beautiful. It carries the weight of all the unspoken words. There's a recurring theme that swells during the final scene—I've been replaying it on loop. The music alone makes this short worth watching.
