Welcome to Shido Academy, a secluded all-boys boarding school nestled on a mountainside, where second-year student Hayama Takumi enters a turbulent new chapter of his life. Assigned as roommates with the charismatic and forward Saki Giichi—known to all as Gii—Takumi finds himself thrust into a web of jealousy, hostility, and unexpected intimacy. As Gii's persistent affection clashes with Takumi's deep aversion to physical touch, the series unravels a layered story of trauma, healing, and complicated love. But Takumi and Gii are not the only ones navigating desire and heartbreak; three other couples—a volatile beauty and a dense strongman, a cold stoic and an eager puppy, and a poetically inclined senior facing rejection—each struggle with their own misunderstandings and secrets. With lush visuals and an atmospheric boarding school setting, this miniseries weaves together four love stories that explore the fragile boundaries between force and consent, past wounds and present connections. Balancing emotional angst with moments of tenderness, Takumi-kun Series: Drama offers a bittersweet, character-driven journey for viewers willing to dig beneath the surface.

Six episodes, four couples, zero coherent storytelling. I had to keep a spreadsheet just to track who was in love with whom. The main couple's progression is rushed and unsatisfying—they go from zero to assault in the span of a single scene. Production values are solid, but that doesn't make up for a script that expects you to have watched half a dozen movies first.

I don't care how pretty the cinematography is—romanticizing sexual assault is a hard no for me. Gii's behavior toward Takumi is textbook coercion, framed as love, and the show never adequately acknowledges the problem. The side plots had potential, but they're drowned out by the main couple's deeply uncomfortable dynamic. This is not a romance; it's a cautionary tale.

I'm only watching for the second couple—Izumi and Yoshizawa. Their chaotic, slap-happy dynamic is weirdly addictive, and at least they have some chemistry. The main pair is a mess, and the other two couples are barely there. If the whole series had focused on the side stories, it could have been amazing. As it is, I'm just skipping to their scenes.

As a long-time reader of the Takumi-kun novels, this adaptation is a crushing disappointment. They crammed four book arcs into six episodes, gutting all the emotional buildup that made the original stories special. Arata and Kanemitsu's beautiful slow-burn is reduced to four forgettable scenes. The casting isn't bad, but the writing betrays the source material at every turn.

I can't deny the visual beauty—the soft blue uniforms, the misty mountain backdrop, the warm lighting in the dorm rooms. The camera work is moody and deliberate, and the score fits perfectly. Unfortunately, no amount of pretty shots can fix the stitched-together plot or the dead-fish kisses. It's a feast for the eyes but starvation for the heart.
