Oga is the brilliant young heir to Okayasu General Hospital, a skilled surgeon whose elite training in the United States and devastatingly good looks make him the undisputed star of the medical staff. But beneath his polished white coat lies a guarded heart – until the day Nanao, an earnest and slightly awkward nurse, stumbles into his life. What begins as a strictly professional mentorship slowly unravels into something far more intimate, as Oga finds his carefully constructed walls challenged by Nanao’s genuine warmth and unwavering dedication. This 2013 Japanese film adaptation delicately navigates the tensions of workplace propriety, family legacy, and the quiet courage it takes to admit you’re in love. With tender performances and a soundtrack that lingers long after the credits roll, *Takamine Doctor no Shirarezaru Sugao* is a hidden gem that proves love can heal even the most guarded hearts.

I absolutely adored this movie! Oga and Nanao’s chemistry is so soft and real – I was rooting for them from their first awkward encounter. The scene in the on-call room made my heart flutter. A perfect comfort watch.

As a fan of the original manga, I was nervous about the adaptation. They changed a few minor details (the side character arcs are trimmed), but the core romance and Oga’s emotional journey are beautifully preserved. The hospital atmosphere felt just right.

The lighting and color grading in this film are gorgeous – warm peach tones in the hospital corridors, cool blues in Oga’s private moments. Some shots are almost painterly. The camerawork could have been more dynamic, but it suits the quiet tone.

I wanted to love it, but the pacing dragged in the middle and some of the side characters felt like cardboard. The resolution is satisfyingly sweet, though I wish there was more conflict between Oga’s family duty and his love. Still, a decent watch for die-hard BL fans.

I was pleasantly surprised by how respectfully this film handles the power imbalance between a doctor and a nurse. Nanao is never pressured, and their relationship develops through mutual respect. It’s a rare example of healthy workplace romance in older BL.
