In the sweltering heat of a Thai high school, 17-year-old Nack lives a quiet, lonely life. His father is absent, and his mother works late into the night, leaving him to navigate the final year of school largely on his own. Everything changes when he accidentally witnesses a clandestine encounter between two male students, sparking a confusing and intense journey of sexual self-discovery. As Nack begins to question his own desires, he meets Toy, a kind and enigmatic new friend who seems to understand him in a way no one else does. Their tentative bond blossoms into something deeper, filled with sweet gestures, quiet understanding, and the thrill of first love. But Nack's devoutly Christian mother harbors deep-seated prejudices, and the pressure to conform clashes with his burgeoning identity. *Sweet Boy* is a melancholic yet visually poetic coming-of-age tale that explores the pain of loneliness, the ache of forbidden love, and the struggle for self-acceptance in a world that demands you be 'normal.' Its artistic imagery and soft symbolism give weight to every silent glance and hesitant touch, making this a bittersweet story that lingers long after the credits roll.

I came for the sweet moments between Nack and Toy, and while their few scenes together were genuinely tender, I was left craving more. The lack of a single kiss really frustrated me. The chemistry was there, but the story robbed us of a proper romantic payoff. Still, Chimon's acting made me feel for Nack's loneliness.

The first half had me hopeful with its symbolic shots and quiet character-building, but the second half completely derails into a tired, cliché direction that feels like a bad copy of The Love of Siam. The motivations are muddled, the conflict is predictable, and the ending is a cop-out. The script needed serious rewrites.

Visually, this film is a treat. The director uses water, light, and religious iconography beautifully to tell the story without words. Every pool scene is gorgeously shot, and the color palette perfectly mirrors Nack's emotional state. If you appreciate visual storytelling over plot, this is worth a watch. Just don't expect a happy ending.

I'm deeply troubled by this film's messaging. It equates being gay with a phase or a sin, and the mother's homophobia is never challenged—instead, her views are treated as inevitable. The attempted suicide is handled irresponsibly, and the sexualization of the teenage cast (especially the lingering crotch shots) feels exploitative. Not a BL I can recommend.

The music really elevated the mood for me. The gentle guitar themes and the melancholic ending song perfectly complemented the film's bittersweet tone. It's rare to find a Thai BL film that uses its score so intentionally. Too bad the plot couldn't match the emotional quality of the soundtrack.
