SWAP is a bold, genre-bending Chinese web series from 2016 that weaves together a tale of love, loss, and identity. Owen has spent years drowning in grief over his brother's death, until a fateful encounter with Bare, a lonely courier, at the Yuwen Entertainment Company sparks an unexpected connection. As their bond deepens, a second story unfolds between a famous singer and a mysterious woman, hinting at a parallel romance. But when a sudden accident throws all four characters into chaos, their souls are swapped in the most literal sense—a man wakes up in a woman's body and vice versa. This surreal twist forces everyone to confront not just their feelings, but their very selves. With its ambitious premise, GL and BL threads, and a mix of heartfelt moments and offbeat humor, SWAP is a unique ride that dares to ask: can love survive when everything you know gets turned upside down?

I absolutely adored the chemistry between Leo and Lucas—every look, every touch felt so genuine! Sure, the acting isn't always perfect, but their love story completely hooked me from episode one. The soul-swap twist was wild but didn't ruin the romance for me at all; I just focused on how much they cared for each other. A hidden gem that deserves way more love!

I wanted to like this, but the writing just collapses after the accident. The whole soul-swap concept is fascinating on paper, but the execution is a mess—suddenly the BL and GL couples become straight because of the body switch? That completely invalidates the queer representation they built up. Plus the acting from most of the cast is painfully wooden. A frustrating waste of a great idea.

SWAP tries to tackle identity in a unique way, but it fumbles hard on consent and queer authenticity. The premise of souls swapping bodies without anyone's explicit choice raises uncomfortable questions—especially when romantic feelings shift based on the vessel rather than the person inside. I appreciate the attempt at both BL and GL representation, but the execution feels dated and problematic. Watch it if you want a conversation starter, not a satisfying romance.

Honestly, I watched this for the GL couple and they were the best part! The singer and the mysterious woman had this tender, quiet chemistry that deserved more screen time. The soul swap ruined their dynamic for me a bit, but those early episodes gave me everything I wanted from a lesbian romance in a Chinese drama. If you're a GL fan, it's worth checking out for that alone—the BL part is just okay.

I was drawn in by the moody lighting and some genuinely pretty shots—there's an artsy feel to parts of SWAP that hints at a better show underneath. But the amateurish editing and inconsistent camera work pulled me right out. It's like they had a vision but not the budget or skill to execute it. A few frames are almost beautiful, but overall it's a visual mess.
