In the cutthroat world of Bangkok's corporate marketing, Jeng (Man Trisanu Soranun) is the fiercely demanding, perfectionist manager—and the CEO's son. Despised by his team for his relentless standards, he's on a mission to prove his department's worth. Enter Pat (Ben Bunyapol Likhitamnuayporn), a fresh-faced, eager-beaver hire who's been a pushover for office busywork. Their first encounter is pure serendipity—a coffee-spill collision that sparks an undeniable attraction. But the romance hits a wall when Pat discovers Jeng is his terrifying new boss. What follows is a slow-burn, workplace cha-cha: Jeng must learn to delegate and trust, while Pat must find his voice and backbone. As they navigate office politics, meddling colleagues, a scheming ex, and a disapproving father, their connection grows step by step, proving that love can bloom even under fluorescent lights and strict deadlines. This uncut version offers extended scenes for a deeper dive into the corporate trenches.

I appreciate the genuine attempt at realistic office dynamics—the hazing of new hires, the impossible deadlines, the gossip. But the pacing is a mess. We wait 10 episodes for the main couple to get together, then all the conflict is crammed into the final episodes. The side characters, especially Jaab/Jane, are completely abandoned. It's frustrating because the bones of a good drama are here, but the execution needed tighter editing.

I am absolutely in love with Jeng and Pat! Sure, it's a slow burn, but that just makes every single glance, every accidental touch, and finally those kisses in episode 10 feel explosive. Man is the most gorgeous, charismatic boss I've ever seen, and even though Ben's acting is a bit green, their chemistry works for me. The moment Jeng smiled softly at Pat… I melted. This is my comfort drama now.

Came for the main couple, stayed for Jaab and Jane… and then got completely blue-balled. Their story had so much potential—the rebellious younger brother pining for the taken coworker with all that angst and tension. But the writers just gave up on them! We never get closure. Extremely disappointing. Meanwhile, Jeng and Pat are cute but Pat's character is too whiny for me. At least Man's suits were perfect.

The music in Step by Step is actually quite lovely—the main theme is catchy and emotional, and the background score during the more tense office moments fits perfectly. I wish they had released a full official OST album. However, the product placement (green tea everywhere) and some repetitive sound cues pulled me out of the immersion. Still, a pleasant listening experience overall.

Finally, a BL that treats the boss-employee power dynamic with the seriousness it deserves. Pat's fear and insecurity are realistic, not just cute obstacles. Jeng actively works to change his micromanaging behavior because he recognizes the imbalance. The show avoids the usual 'gay for you' trope and lets characters be comfortably gay. My only critique is Pat's extreme reaction to learning Jeng is gay—that felt dated and unexplained. Otherwise, a thoughtful, socially-aware romance.
