Stay with Me (2023) is a Filipino film that weaves a poignant tale of mental health and unexpected love. The story follows a young woman grappling with schizophrenia, whose reality blurs as she struggles to distinguish between her hallucinations and the people around her. At the heart of this emotional journey is Stan, a gentle and enigmatic man who becomes her roommate and anchor. As their bond deepens, the film explores not only her fight for clarity but also the quiet, tender romance that blossoms between two male supporting characters—a gay couple whose love story offers a beacon of hope and acceptance. Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, this comedy-romance balances lighthearted moments with profound questions about identity, perception, and the healing power of human connection. With standout performances by Garry Herrera and Ben Espina, Stay with Me is a heartfelt tribute to love in all its forms, proving that sometimes the most real connections are found in the spaces between what we see and what we believe.

I went in expecting just another indie drama, but the gay love story between the two roommates completely stole my heart. Their chemistry felt so natural and sweet, and I wish we'd gotten more of their scenes. The main storyline about schizophrenia was handled with care too, though sometimes it felt a bit rushed. Overall, a beautiful and emotional watch.

I appreciate the attempt to blend mental illness with romance, but the execution was all over the place. The pacing drags in the middle, and the main character's arc feels underdeveloped. The BL subplot is cute but barely explored—more of a backdrop than a real story. It's watchable, but don't expect a tightly woven narrative.

This film is a feast for the eyes. The use of lighting and color to reflect the protagonist's mental state is superb—dreamy yellows for hallucinations, cold blues for reality. The cinematography elevates what could have been a standard drama. I just wish the script matched the visual ambition. Still, a solid effort from Filipino indie cinema.

I'm glad this film exists because representation of mental illness in Philippine media is so rare. The portrayal of schizophrenia felt mostly respectful, though I wish it had consulted more mental health experts to avoid some clichés. The gay romance was refreshingly normal and not fetishized, which I appreciated. A flawed but important step forward, especially for LGBTQ+ visibility.

Honestly, I only stayed for the gay couple. Their moments together were pure gold—awkward, tender, and real. I wanted a whole movie just about them. The main plot with the woman's schizophrenia was okay, but it kept cutting away from the romance I actually cared about. If you're a side-ship fan like me, you'll enjoy what little we get, but prepare to be left wanting more.
