Hayden, a quiet young man seeking a fresh start, moves into a small, worn-down flat in the heart of Hong Kong. He finds an unexpected anchor in his elderly upstairs neighbor, whose warmth and wisdom fill the lonely corridors of the building. Through her, he meets her grandson Damien, a soul still heavy with unresolved grief. As they spend quiet evenings together, a gentle spark of romance flickers between them, offering a chance at healing. But their story is only one half of this intimate mosaic. Interwoven through the conversations of a straight couple sharing their own truths, we are drawn into the past and present of Kelvin and Archie – two men caught in the web of a decade-old love, societal expectations, and a deeply toxic marriage. With breathtaking rooftop views and damp Kowloon alleyways as a backdrop, *Stay Still* is a raw, atmospheric meditation on love, loss, and the courage to let go. This is not a fairy tale; it is a slice of real life, shot through with moments of breathtaking tenderness and devastating honesty.

I fell in love with Hayden and Damien so quickly. Their quiet rooftop talks, the way Damien finally smiles a little – it felt so earned. Yes, the series is short, but their chemistry made every second count. Grandma is the real MVP, shipping them from the stairwell! I just wish we got 10 more episodes of just the two of them.

Kelvin and Archie destroyed me. Their story is the heart of this show – a painful, messy, real second chance that doesn't come easy. I actually felt the weight of Kelvin's trapped life and Archie's quiet desperation. The female villain is over-the-top, but honestly it just made me root for them harder. Give me a full series of just these two!

The ambition is admirable but the execution is messy. Two couples plus a framing device is too much for just 70 minutes of content. Transitions are jarring and the straight couple's scenes felt pointless. Kelvin's story needed more time to breathe – the emotional beats just didn't land for me. Great cinematography can't fix a rushed script.

I could pause almost any frame and hang it on my wall. The color grading perfectly separates the gray, heavy present from the sepia-tinged flashbacks. The night scenes in Kowloon are gorgeous – all rain-slicked asphalt and flickering signs. This is how you do indie queer cinema on a budget. The direction and lighting alone make this a must-watch for film nerds.

I appreciate that this drama doesn't romanticize coercion. The non-consensual kiss and the manipulation scene are framed as violations, not passion. However, the way the wife is written as a one-dimensional villain feels reductive. I wanted to see more nuance about systemic pressures on gay men in heteronormative societies. Still, for a short indie series, it opens important conversations.
