In the charming Japanese BL film 'Sono Koi, Jihanki de Kaemasu ka?' (Can I Buy Your Love from a Vending Machine?), we follow Koiwai Ayumu, a weary salaryman in his early thirties, who finds himself inexplicably drawn to Yamashita Ryoma, the muscular and kind-hearted vending machine attendant who stocks the office break room. Their connection begins with a simple, refreshing gesture—Yamashita offers Koiwai an orange juice on a particularly exhausting day—and blossoms into a tender, awkward, and deeply relatable romance. Koiwai, shy and unsure, must summon the courage to make the first move, while Yamashita, though more direct, also navigates his own insecurities. Adapted from the popular manga by Yoshii Haruaki, this film captures every giddy, nerve-wracking step of falling in love: from exchanging phone numbers and agonizing over texts, to first dates and the thrill of mutual recognition. With its gentle humor, authentic inner monologues, and a warm supporting cast including Koiwai's perceptive colleague Ooishi, the movie is a pure, heartfelt celebration of ordinary people taking the leap toward extraordinary connection. It's a love story that reminds us that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is simply say hello.

I am completely charmed by this movie. From the first orange juice moment to the final text exchange, every step of their relationship felt so real and sweet. The giddy awkwardness, the blushing, the way they fumble through their dates—it's exactly what first love feels like. My heart is full!

I appreciate the gentle sincerity, but the pacing is quite slow even for a slice-of-life film. Some scenes drag on, and the sound mixing in outdoor shots is noticeably rough. Still, the central relationship is sweet enough, and the leads have decent chemistry. A nice watch, just not groundbreaking.

What the film lacks in budget, it makes up for in loving attention to detail. The lighting in Yamashita's messy room, the changing dates on Koiwai's whiteboard, and the way natural light falls on their faces during conversations—all of it feels intimate and real. Not a glossy production, but a beautifully human one.

This film quietly but powerfully normalizes a gay romance in a Japanese office setting. It shows two men navigating their feelings with respect and care—no toxic tropes, just honest communication and consent. The way the younger lead takes the initiative without pressure is refreshing. A small step for queer representation done right.

As a fan of the original manga, I was worried the adaptation might rush or change the story. But the film captures the essence perfectly—the shy glances, the inner monologues, even the small daily details. A few side characters are trimmed, but the core romance stays true to the source. A lovely live-action.
