Set against the humid, neon-lit streets of contemporary Singapore, *Solos* is a quietly devastating film that peels back the layers of loneliness, longing, and the courage it takes to speak your truth. The story interweaves the lives of three souls: Boy, a shy young man grappling with his first crush on an older coworker; Man, a guarded professional whose carefully built walls hide a tender heart; and Mother, a matriarch whose love both suffocates and sustains. Through stolen glances, hesitant conversations, and moments of profound silence, they each navigate the painful gap between what they feel and what they dare to show. Director (unconfirmed) crafts an intimate, almost documentary-like portrait of queer desire in a society that still struggles with acceptance. There are no easy resolutions here—only the aching beauty of people who are learning, slowly, to be vulnerable. *Solos* is a raw, heartfelt meditation on emotional intimacy that will resonate with anyone who has ever loved in secret.

I watched this on a rainy night and couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Boy and Man have this agonizingly beautiful tension—every glance feels like a confession. The ending broke me but in the most cathartic way. If you love slow-burn longing with zero filler, this is for you.

I appreciate what *Solos* tries to do, but the pacing is glacial. The movie spends too much time on repetitive silence and not enough on character development. The Mother storyline feels undercooked, and the abrupt ending left me unsatisfied. Still, the acting is solid and the atmosphere is unique.

The visual storytelling here is stunning. The use of dim lighting, rain-soaked windows, and cramped HDB flats creates a sense of suffocating intimacy. Every shot is composed like a photograph—you can feel the weight of the unspoken. It's not a conventional BL, but as a piece of visual poetry, it's masterful.

I'm glad this film exists to document queer life in early-2000s Singapore, but the power dynamics between Man (older) and Boy (younger) made me uncomfortable at times. There's a lack of clear consent negotiation—very much a product of its era. Worth watching for historical context, but don't expect progressive representation.

The minimalist piano score and the ambient city sounds do half the emotional work here. There's a recurring motif—a single, trembling note—that perfectly mirrors the characters' hesitation. I found myself searching for the soundtrack immediately after. It's haunting in the best way.
