On the eve of the 2010 Miss Universe pageant, three gay friends gather for what they hope will be a fun-filled slumber party, complete with pageant commentary, gossip, and comfort food. But their night takes an unexpected turn when an uninvited guest arrives, stirring up old tensions and unspoken feelings. As the pageant plays in the background, the trio navigates jealousy, heartbreak, and the true meaning of friendship. This Filipino indie gem balances laugh-out-loud comedy with tender moments of vulnerability, exploring themes of self-acceptance, queer friendship, and the messy beauty of chosen family. With its authentic portrayals and nostalgic early-2010s vibe, Slumber Party is a charming slice-of-life film that resonates long after the final scene.

As a romantic at heart, I loved the chemistry between the friends even though there's no main couple. The unspoken longing and the way they supported each other felt so real. The pageant backdrop was just icing on the cake!

The premise is cute, but the pacing drags in the middle and some conflicts feel resolved too quickly. I get it's a low-budget indie, but a tighter script would have made this more impactful. Still, the acting is earnest.

I appreciate that this film centers gay friendship without fetishizing it. The dialogue about coming out and internalized shame is handled with care. However, the lone female character feels a bit one-dimensional, which is a missed opportunity.

The cinematography has this warm, home-video quality that perfectly captures the early 2010s aesthetic. The lighting during the pageant scenes is especially clever—very low-tech but effective. A true time capsule.

The indie pop soundtrack really sets the mood—those early 2010s synth beats are so nostalgic! I wish the film had more original songs, but the placements were spot-on for the emotional beats. Made me smile.
