In the quiet, suffocating town where he lives with his mother, Haru navigates a life that feels more like a waiting room than a home. His days are a monotonous blur of routine and unspoken longing—for connection, for passion, for someone to see past his quiet exterior. That all changes when he crosses paths with Leo, a mysterious drifter whose presence is both unsettling and magnetic. After a single, intense night together, Haru is left reeling, his carefully constructed emotional walls cracking. But when dawn breaks, Leo vanishes without a trace, leaving Haru with only a tangle of memory and a deep, aching insecurity. As Haru tries to piece together the truth behind the man who stirred his soul, he must also confront the ghosts of his own past—and the painful question of whether that fleeting intimacy was real or just a beautiful illusion. Skylight is a tender, achingly human short film that explores the raw edges of desire, loneliness, and the desperate hope that love can be more than a temporary shelter.

I watched this on a quiet night and it hit me right in the chest. Haru and Leo's chemistry is so fragile and real—I actually teared up when Leo left. Yes, it's short, but sometimes a beautiful moment is all you need. I wish there were more scenes of them together, but what we got was enough to leave me aching.

I get what it was trying to do—capture a fleeting connection—but the execution felt incomplete. The pacing drags in the first half and then rushes through the emotional climax. Leo's character is barely sketched, so I didn't feel invested in their bond. A decent student film at best, but not a satisfying watch for a BL fan.

Visually, this is a gem. Every shot of the rain-soaked streets, the pale morning light through the curtains, the way Haru's face is half-lit in shadows—it's pure cinematic poetry. The color grading shifts subtly from cold blues to warm amber during their night together. I only wish the script had been as carefully crafted as the visuals.

I appreciate that the film attempts to portray the loneliness of a gay man in a conservative environment, but the central relationship felt unbalanced. Leo is mysterious to the point of being emotionally unavailable, and Haru's vulnerability isn't reciprocated in a way that feels healthy. It raises interesting questions about seeking validation through strangers, but doesn't answer them.

The piano score is hauntingly beautiful—it carries the emotional weight when the actors are silent. There's a particular track that plays during the morning-after scene that I've replayed a dozen times. The music alone almost makes the film worth watching, even if the story leaves you wanting more substance.
