Yuto lives in a state of profound loneliness, using sex as a temporary remedy to fill the void inside him. On a seemingly ordinary day, he boards a bus to visit his sex partner in a quiet seaside town. As he travels through grimy urban streets and into a sun-bleached coastal neighborhood, we see the world through Yuto's eyes—a place he enviably wishes would crumble and disappear. His encounters with his friend are raw and physical, yet emotionally distant; Yuto craves warmth but resists any label that might imply a deeper connection. The film is an intimate, visually-driven portrait of a gay man caught between desire and fear of intimacy. Through stark contrasts of light and shadow, shaky handheld camerawork, and a hauntingly sparse narrative, 'Sex × Friend?' captures the aching ambiguity of a relationship that is 'a bit more than friends, but not lovers.' This short film leaves viewers pondering the true meaning of connection and the walls we build to protect ourselves from vulnerability.

I was completely drawn in by the raw intimacy between Yuto and his friend. The way Yuto's vulnerability peeks through his harsh exterior is heartbreakingly beautiful. Yes, it's short and leaves you hanging, but the chemistry is palpable. I wanted so much more of their story!

The premise is interesting but the execution is frustrating. The plot goes nowhere, the ending is abrupt, and the character's motivations remain unclear. The cinematography tries hard but the shaky camera gave me a headache. Not enough substance for its runtime.

Visually, this short film is a gem. The overexposed seaside scenes contrasting with the grimy bus ride perfectly symbolize Yuto's inner turmoil. The handheld camera adds a raw, documentary-like feel. I wish the story had more resolution, but the aesthetic choices are bold and effective.

I appreciate the film's honest depiction of casual sex as a coping mechanism for loneliness, but it also raises uncomfortable questions about consent and emotional manipulation. Yuto is clearly using his friend, and the power dynamics are left unexplored. A useful conversation starter but not a feel-good watch.

The sound design and sparse soundtrack perfectly underscore the isolation Yuto feels. The ambient noises of the bus, waves, and distant traffic create a haunting soundscape. I wish there was a full OST, but the audio atmosphere alone made this a compelling watch.
