When aspiring artist Tang suddenly loses his reflection, he’s plunged into a waking nightmare—or is it a strange new reality? Instead of his own face, the mirror shows him a mysterious, guitar-wielding boy named Neo, who seems to know more about Tang’s life than he should. Driven by a mix of fear and fascination, Tang embarks on a search for the boy, only to uncover a web of buried secrets, tragic loss, and the dark side of relentless pursuit. What begins as a supernatural mystery slowly unfolds into a raw, coming-of-age story about loneliness, trust, and the haunting weight of the past. With its moody cinematography and a plot that twists between suspense and fragile hope, *Self* offers a uniquely somber take on youth and connection—one that lingers long after the credits roll. Perfect for viewers craving something darker and more introspective than a typical romance.

I’m a sucker for visual storytelling, and this series delivers on that front. Every frame feels carefully composed, with gorgeous muted tones and clever use of reflections. The script could have been tighter, but the camera work alone made it worth my time.

The premise had me hooked, but by the end I was frustrated. The mirror mystery is never explained—it’s treated like a plot device that gets abandoned. The pacing drags in the middle, and the resolution feels rushed. Great idea, poor execution.

I appreciate that the show doesn’t shy away from the ugly sides of bullying and obsession. However, the lack of trigger warnings is irresponsible, and the way suicide is used as a narrative catalyst feels a bit exploitative. Still, the performances are earnest, and the intentions are good.

I came for a BL romance and got a sad mystery instead. The chemistry between the leads is there, but it’s buried under so much darkness and unresolved plot that I couldn't fully invest. If you want a slow-burn with actual payoff, look elsewhere.

The music is subtle but effective—there's a melancholy guitar theme that perfectly mirrors the main character's isolation. I wish the OST had a proper release because a few tracks really stuck with me. The sound design adds a layer of tension that the script sometimes lacks.
