Seek McCartney is a tender, cross-cultural romance that follows the unexpected connection between Li Yi (Han Geng), a solitary Chinese man grappling with his past, and Rohmer (Jérémie Elkaïm), a free-spirited French photographer visiting Beijing. What begins as a chance encounter at a quiet corner of the city blossoms into a deeply intimate friendship, slowly revealing a shared loneliness that transcends language and borders. As they explore the hidden, poetic corners of modern China—from bustling night markets to serene temples—their bond deepens into a quiet, aching love. But societal pressures and personal demons threaten to pull them apart. Filmed with an unhurried, almost documentary-like intimacy, Seek McCartney offers a rare, nuanced portrayal of LGBTQ+ love in a Chinese context, celebrating the courage it takes to open your heart in a world that often stays silent.

I wasn't ready for how tender this film is. Han Geng and Jérémie Elkaïm have this quiet, aching chemistry that made my heart flutter. Every lingering glance and hesitant touch felt so real. It's not flashy romance, but it's honest and beautiful. I cried during the rooftop scene.

I came for the story but stayed for the visuals. The cinematography is absolutely stunning — soft golden hour light, reflections in rainy streets, and framing that feels like intimate photographs. The director clearly understands visual storytelling. Every shot could be a still in a gallery.

I appreciate the effort at a nuanced queer love story, but the pacing dragged in the middle section and some dialogue felt stilted, probably from translation. The emotional payoff didn't fully land for me. Still, it's a respectable indie film with good intentions.

I really valued how the film handled consent and emotional boundaries — no predatory tropes, just two people navigating their feelings with care. It also doesn't shy away from showing the weight of societal pressure. A thoughtful, if slow, contribution to queer cinema conversations.

The soundtrack is subtle but perfect — plaintive piano and soft ambient sounds that wrap around the quiet moments. There's a scene where only city noise plays and it amplifies the loneliness so well. The score became a character on its own. I've been humming the main theme for days.
