Sa Kabilang Dulo, Baka Sakaling, Maging Tayo is a poignant Filipino miniseries that unfolds as a trilogy of love, loss, and the heartbreaking possibility of second chances. The story follows Pao and Juls as they navigate the tumultuous cycle of romance—from the electrifying spark of a love/hate dynamic to the crushing weight of unrequited feelings. But this is no ordinary love story: beneath the surface lies a raw, honest portrayal of mental health struggles, as both men grapple with depression and the illness that threatens to tear them apart. Told across three emotionally charged episodes, the series captures the fragility of human connection when hope and despair collide. With powerful performances from Ericson Fernandez and Kean Antonio, and the intimate, indie production style of UNLI RICE, this web series offers a deeply resonant experience that lingers long after the credits roll. It’s a must-watch for fans who crave realistic, heart-wrenching LGBTQ+ storytelling that doesn’t shy away from the shadows of love.

I’m absolutely wrecked. Pao and Juls’ story tore my heart out and then carefully put it back together. The chemistry between Ericson and Kean is incredible—every glance felt so real. Yes, it’s short, but the emotional payoff is huge. If you love bittersweet, angsty romance with real stakes, this is for you.

I wanted to love this, but three episodes just aren’t enough to develop the story properly. The time jumps feel abrupt, and some of the emotional beats come out of nowhere. It’s ambitious with its mental health themes, but execution feels rushed. I appreciate the effort, but it needed at least two more episodes.

I appreciate that the series dares to show depression and unrequited love in a gay relationship, but the power dynamics are a bit muddy. The love/hate cycle can feel toxic at times, and I wish the narrative had more overt discussions about consent and emotional boundaries. Still, it’s a step forward for Filipino BL to address mental health so openly.

For a small indie web series, the cinematography is surprisingly thoughtful. The use of warm vs. cold lighting to mirror mood swings and the intimate handheld close-ups really pulled me into Pao and Juls’ world. Some scenes are a bit dark, but overall it’s visually effective. Wished for a cleaner grade in a few cuts.

The music in this series is heartbreakingly beautiful. The guitar-led score and the original songs perfectly underscore the loneliness and yearning. There’s one track that plays during the finale that still gives me chills. If you’re a sucker for a good OST that amplifies the emotion, don’t skip this little gem.
