In the sweltering heat of a Philippine provincial town, Marlon is a college student living a double life. To his friends, he's just one of the guys—until he starts collecting explicit cell-phone videos, hoping to bond with the rugged tricycle driver Jonas, who unknowingly becomes the object of his secret desire. As Marlon navigates the dangerous line between bravado and vulnerability, his quest for the 'ultimate' video leads him into a web of deception, whispered secrets, and a community that punishes authenticity. This raw, intimate 2007 indie film captures the aching loneliness of closeted youth before the smartphone era, blending yearning, humor, and heartbreak into a quiet meditation on love that dares not speak its name. A unique time capsule of Filipino queer life, Roxxxanne is a must-see for those who appreciate gritty, character-driven dramas over polished productions.

As a document of queer Filipino life in the 2000s, Roxxxanne is invaluable. The way it portrays Marlon's self-hatred and the pressure to perform hyper-masculinity is painfully accurate. However, the film doesn't fully critique the systems at play—it almost romanticizes the misery. Worth watching for discussion, not for entertainment.

I was blown away by the naturalistic lighting and the way the camera lingered on sweaty, sun-drenched faces. The grainy DV aesthetic perfectly matches the gritty, claustrophobic tone. Sure, the plot meanders, but the visual storytelling is honest and evocative. A hidden gem for fans of lo-fi realism.

I get what they were going for, but the pacing is glacial and the dialogue feels stilted. Half the scenes are just Marlon staring at his phone or into space. The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying. I appreciate the cultural context, but as a film, it barely holds together.

I wanted so badly to love the yearning between Marlon and Jonas, but there's almost no payoff. A few longing glances can't carry a whole movie. The ending left me frustrated—I needed at least one tender moment that wasn't immediately undercut by shame. Not the romantic drama I was hoping for.

The soundtrack is sparse but effective—a few acoustic guitar pieces and ambient sounds that mirror Marlon's isolation. There's a particular scene where the only audio is a tricycle engine fading away, and it broke my heart. Not a standout OST, but it serves the mood beautifully.
