Set in early 2000s Bangkok, *Right by Me* follows three university friends—each grappling with the universal chaos of youth, but with an added layer: embracing their gay identities. The film weaves together their separate journeys of self-discovery, from first crushes and awkward confessions to the nerve-wracking act of coming out to family and friends. There's the shy one harboring unrequited feelings, the bold one pushing boundaries, and the one caught between societal expectations and his own heart. With a gentle blend of comedy and tender drama, this Thai classic captures the quiet, messy beauty of finding your people and your truth. It's a nostalgic snapshot of a time when being out wasn't easy, but love—in all its forms—was worth the fight. No high-octane twists, just honest, relatable storytelling that still resonates today.

I'm a total sucker for cliché coming-of-age stories, and this one hit all the right notes for me. Sure, the acting isn't award-winning and the plot is simple, but the warmth and honesty made me smile from start to finish. If you want a feel-good queer film without any heavy angst, this is it.

For a 2005 Thai indie, this holds up surprisingly well. The sound and picture are a little rough around the edges, but the story about figuring out your identity and coming out to loved ones is timeless. The English subtitles were clear and the cast had decent chemistry. A solid, unpretentious watch.

I love seeing how Thai BL evolved, and this early film has a raw, almost documentary feel. The lighting and camera work are basic, but there's a genuine quality to the performances that you don't always get in polished modern dramas. It's like watching a home video of a friend's real life—imperfect but precious.

This film handles the pressure of coming out in a conservative society with surprising nuance. The characters' fears about family rejection and bullying felt authentic, not melodramatic. I appreciated that it didn't sugarcoat the struggle but still offered a hopeful ending. A gentle but important reminder of how far we've come.

As someone who read the novel first, I was a bit disappointed by how much the film streamlined the story. The book had more depth with the side characters and internal monologues. Still, the core romance remains intact and the adaptation captures the spirit. Decent for a quick watch, but the book is richer.
