In the hallowed halls of university life, Fang Yuan is the picture of confidence—smart, handsome, and outgoing. Liang Guang, by contrast, is a quiet enigma, his silence hiding a world of unspoken thoughts and emotions. When Fang Yuan notices the lonely boy sitting alone in the lecture hall, he feels an inexplicable pull to break through his shell. What begins as a simple gesture of friendship slowly blossoms into something deeper, a tender connection that helps Liang Guang find his voice. 'Reverse Light Source' is a sweet, fleeting glimpse into a relationship cut short by censorship, yet its 3 episodes capture the fragile beauty of two souls learning to trust and care for each other. Despite its abbreviated runtime, the series radiates a gentle charm that lingers long after the screen fades to black.

I was so excited for a Chinese BL but this was painfully short and had zero romance. No kissing, no confession, just two guys being friends? The actors are cute but the story ended before it even began. Very disappointing for a romance fan.

Given that only 3 out of 10 episodes aired due to censorship, what remains is an incomplete story that feels like a generic slice-of-life. The acting is decent but the pacing is off, and the jokes fall flat. It's okay as a time-waster but nothing special.

As a BL from 2016 China, I respect the attempt but the lack of any real romantic development or queer representation beyond subtext is frustrating. The 'cool' female side character is annoying and stereotypical. This series feels like a missed opportunity.

I read the web novel first, and the drama captures the gentle dynamic between Fang Yuan and Liang Guang well. Unfortunately the abrupt ending ruins the slow-burn arc. The actors have good chemistry but the adaptation is incomplete. Still a nice glimpse.

Visually it's nothing groundbreaking - standard Chinese web drama production. The campus setting is nice but the lighting is flat and the direction is average. Not a standout in terms of cinematography but watchable.
