Tamotsu Nirasaki, a gay high school teacher, feels trapped in a lonely existence, unable to find a relationship that truly accepts him. When he discovers that one of his students, Shiotsu Yu, is also gay, a flicker of hope ignites—could this be the ordinary happiness he's been yearning for? But Shiotsu's confession reveals a crush on another boy, Hatsukari, not his teacher. What begins as a potential romance morphs into a delicate exploration of unrequited feelings, self-acceptance, and the courage to pursue genuine connection. This 2011 Japanese short film balances comedy and heartfelt youth drama, asking whether happiness can truly be 'ordinary' when society’s expectations weigh so heavily. A bittersweet, thought-provoking watch for those who appreciate nuanced queer stories.

I get what it was trying to do—show the loneliness and dashed hopes of a gay teacher—but the execution felt clumsy. The comedy didn't land for me, and the resolution, while morally decent, was too abrupt. An interesting relic from a time when BL was less polished, but not exactly a must-watch.

I can't ignore the predatory undertones of a teacher pining for his student, even if the story tries to subvert it. The film fails to adequately critique the power imbalance, and the 'happy ending' feels like it excuses problematic fantasies. For a queer story, it could have been so much more responsible.

Despite the controversy, I found this deeply moving. The quiet yearning, the missed connections—it all felt so real. The scene where the teacher realizes he's not the one his student likes broke my heart. It's not a typical romance, but the emotional payoff was worth it for me.

The cinematography is painfully basic—handheld shots with flat lighting that scream low budget. There are a few nice framing choices, but overall it looks more like a student project than a polished film. The washed-out color palette fits the melancholy mood, but it's not visually engaging enough to distract from the flaws.

The piano score really sold the loneliness for me. It's minimal but perfectly matched the awkward silences and emotional beats. That said, the sound mixing is rough in places. Still, the music gave the film a soul that the visuals sometimes lacked.
