In the gripping Taiwanese BL series *Pray in Love*, Yang Qi An is a man consumed by revenge. When his estranged biological father, the powerful and ruthless Yang Qing Hai, forces him into a politically motivated arranged marriage, Qi An feigns compliance, planning to use the union as a stepping stone to dismantle his father’s empire. But Yang Qing Hai is always ten steps ahead, and a sudden shooting plunges Qi An into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Enter a stoic and principled police officer—the male lead—who becomes entangled in the investigation and, unexpectedly, in Qi An’s heart. As bullets fly and secrets unravel, the two men must navigate a web of betrayal, family deceit, and forbidden attraction. Blending high-stakes crime with a slow-burn romance, *Pray in Love* delivers taut suspense, tender moments, and a central question: Can love survive when trust is the most dangerous weapon of all? This miniseries stands out for its layered characters, moody atmosphere, and the compelling tension between a man seeking vengeance and the lawman sworn to uphold justice.

I am absolutely obsessed with the chemistry between Cheng Nan Chung and Huang Li Feng. Every lingering look, every almost-touch—my heart was pounding. The revenge plot keeps you guessing, but the real payoff is watching two guarded souls slowly let each other in. A must-watch for anyone who loves a good slow-burn with actual stakes!

As an action fan, I was pleasantly surprised by the gunfight choreography and the tense standoffs. The shooting in episode 3 was raw and impactful—none of that Hollywood glamour. The police officer lead actually knows how to handle a firearm, and the stunts feel grounded. If you want a BL that doesn't forget it's also a crime thriller, this delivers.

I appreciate the attempt at a complex revenge narrative, but there are too many conveniences. The father's omniscience feels cartoonish at times, and certain character decisions are frustratingly dumb just to move the romance forward. The chemistry is undeniable, but as a plot critic, I needed tighter writing and fewer deus ex machina moments. Enjoyable, but flawed.

The cinematography is a knockout. They use shadows and neon wash to reflect the moral ambiguity of the characters, and the framing of the two leads in doorways or across interrogation tables speaks volumes without a word. The color grading shifts from cold blues to warm amber as trust builds. It's a visual feast that elevates the whole story.

I appreciate that the show doesn't romanticize the coercion of the arranged marriage—it clearly frames it as a tool of control. The developing relationship between the leads is built on mutual respect once trust is earned, and there's a nice scene where the cop explicitly checks in on consent before a kiss. It's not perfect (the power imbalance lingers), but for a crime BL, it handles these themes with surprising thoughtfulness.
