In 'Pretty Boys', Grey is a vibrant and unapologetically flamboyant young man who has always worn his heart on his sleeve. His best friend, Jonas, is the opposite — a conventionally masculine heartthrob who glides through the gay dating scene with ease. Grey, however, faces constant rejection, convinced his effeminate style is the reason. When Yates, Grey’s long-lost crush from childhood, returns from the United States, Grey’s hopes soar. But his world implodes when Yates confesses his feelings — not for Grey, but for Jonas. Thrust into an impossible love triangle, Grey must decide: help Yates woo Jonas, or finally fight for his own chance at love. Set against a colorful high school backdrop, this Filipino romantic comedy explores the pain of unrequited love, the complexity of friendship, and the courage it takes to embrace who you truly are. It’s a heartfelt, messy, and ultimately hopeful story about breaking stereotypes and finding love where you least expect it.

I adored the chemistry between Grey and Jonas, even if it wasn't fully explored. Kiehl and Markus brought so much warmth to their scenes. Yes, the plot jumps around, but the emotional beats hit me right in the heart. A sweet, messy love triangle that felt real.

The cast works hard, but the script lets them down. Grey's motivations shift every scene, and the resolution comes out of nowhere. For a film that wants to discuss stereotypes and self-love, it ironically relies on the same tired tropes. Entertaining in a shallow way, but nothing new.

Visually, the film is quite pleasing. The school setting is bathed in warm golden tones, and the close-ups capture the actors' emotions beautifully. Some scenes feel like a music video, which I actually enjoyed. The editing could be tighter, but the aesthetic is on point.

I appreciate that the film centers a flamboyant gay lead who isn't a joke, but the love triangle dynamics feel uncomfortable. Grey's labor for Yates is never fully addressed as unequal. There's a missed opportunity to discuss internalized homophobia and the pressure to conform. Still, the cast's sincerity shines through.
