In the gritty heart of Manila, Plus Minus follows Mark, an aspiring drag queen grappling with his identity, and Alex, a reserved student seeking escape from his own pressures. When they connect online, their tentative meetups in desolate motel rooms become a sanctuary—a space to shed societal masks and embrace their authentic selves without judgment. As they navigate the highs of newfound intimacy and the lows of a world that doesn't always accept them, their bond deepens into a fragile yet powerful lifeline. Told through a nonlinear narrative that echoes memory's fragmented nature, the film captures the raw, tender moments of a love story built on vulnerability and survival. With striking performances and a deeply atmospheric city setting, Plus Minus is an unflinching yet heartfelt exploration of queer love and self-discovery in a landscape where happiness is as fleeting as it is precious.

I was blown away by the chemistry between Mark and Alex. Every motel scene felt so real and raw—like I was intruding on something sacred. The drag performance moments were stunning, and I cried so much. This film deserves way more love!

I appreciate what they tried to do with the nonlinear timeline, but it just felt disjointed. Character motivations were unclear, and the pacing dragged in the middle. The acting was fine, but the story didn't hold together for me.

The cinematography is a quiet standout—the neon glow of Manila streets, the claustrophobic motel rooms, the intimate close-ups that capture every flicker of emotion. I just wish the script had matched the visuals' ambition.

For a film made in 2019, the depiction of a drag queen lead is refreshingly non-caricatured. The power dynamics between Mark and Alex felt realistic, and the consent in their intimate moments was handled with care. Still, the ending left me wanting more closure.

The music complements the mood well—lots of melancholic piano and ambient sounds that amplify the isolation. But there's no standout track that I'd listen to outside the film. It works in the moment but doesn't linger.
