“Padayon”— it is a Filipino Visayan word which means “onward” or “to continue”. This is not a classic boys' love (BL) story; this one will tackle social issues. From sexual abuse, mental health problems,…

Set against the lush but unforgiving Philippine countryside, *Padayon* tells the story of Kai, a hardworking farm boy who helps his mother maintain a wealthy landowner's hacienda, and Andre, the arrogant son of that landowner, sent to the remote estate as punishment by his abusive father. When a violent encounter with local bullies draws them together, an unlikely bond forms—one that challenges class divides, personal trauma, and deep-seated social injustices. More than a romance, *Padayon* (meaning 'to continue' in Bisaya) is a raw, socially conscious drama that weaves in themes of rural poverty, government-sanctioned violence, sexual abuse, mental health, and LGBTQ+ identity. While the love story at its heart is tender and believable—thanks to charismatic performances by Ian Rosapapan and John Padilla—the series never shies from pointing an accusatory finger at systemic oppression. With a beautiful soundtrack and haunting imagery of the Visayan landscape, this miniseries is an earnest, if imperfect, call to keep fighting, keep loving, and keep moving forward.

I went in expecting typical BL fluff but was blown away by how real Kai and Andre felt. Their slow-burn connection, set against the harsh countryside, made every smile and touch meaningful. Ian Rosapapan's eyes alone tell a thousand stories. Yes, the production is rough, but the heart is undeniable.

I admire what they tried to do—tackle poverty, corruption, and queer identity in a BL framework—but the execution often felt like a lecture. Characters sit around campfires and just state the issues instead of showing them. That rushed bed scene bothered me too. Still, the main actors are charismatic enough to keep you watching.

Visually, this is one of the better low-budget Pinoy BLs. The ochre fields, the river scenes, and the intimate close-ups really captured the mood. I loved the color grading—brown and gold everywhere, reflecting both beauty and hardship. A few shots are genuinely stunning. Too bad the script couldn't match the visuals.

This show earns points for its honest portrayal of class struggle and rural homophobia, but I'm conflicted about how it handles trans characters—they feel like comic relief rather than fully realized people. The main couple's consent and emotional growth are handled decently, but the social messaging sometimes overshadows the personal story.

That soundtrack! 'Himig Ng Elehiya' gave me chills and made the mourning scene unforgettable. John Padilla can really sing, and the background music perfectly underscores the heartbreak and hope. I honestly kept watching just to hear what song would play next. The audio quality is several notches above the video.
