Set against the stark, gray backdrop of a northeastern Chinese city, *Our Marriages* is a raw and intimate documentary that follows four lesbian women over two years as they navigate the complex web of forced marriages to gay men. Far from a traditional love story, this film unflinchingly captures the emotional toll of living in a society where family obligation and social pressure often override personal identity. Through candid interviews and vérité-style footage, we witness these women balancing their secret relationships, their public facades, and the quiet rebellion of carving out a space for authentic love. The film raises profound questions about the price of conformity and the resilience of the human heart, making it a deeply moving, eye-opening portrait of LGBTQ+ survival in contemporary China. It's not just a documentary—it's a quiet, revolutionary cry for visibility.

I went in expecting a typical BL drama, but this is a documentary. The cinematography is raw and almost too real—grainy, handheld shots that make you feel like you're sitting in those cramped apartments with the subjects. It's not polished, but that's the point. The emotional weight is immense, though the pacing drags in the middle.

Important subject matter, but I found the structure a bit meandering. The film jumps between the four women without a clear narrative arc, which sometimes dilutes the impact. I appreciate the honesty, but it could have been tighter. Still, a worthwhile watch for the conversations it sparks.

This documentary broke me in the best way. It's not a love story you'd see on a poster, but the quiet moments of solidarity between these women and their gay husbands are deeply moving. The film is a brilliant case study in how societal structures force people into impossible choices. Essential viewing for anyone who cares about LGBTQ+ rights and consent.

I came for a romance but stayed for the heartbreak and hope. The bond between one of the lesbians and her girlfriend is shown so tenderly—a few stolen kisses in a car, a hand held under a table. It's not steamy, but it's so real. I cried when they talked about wanting a wedding that can never be. Beautiful and painful at the same time.
