Set against the hazy, golden light of a Hong Kong summer, *Our Golden Times* is a poignant micro-drama about the love that got away—and the courage it takes to chase it again. George (Nathan Chung) is a quiet, passive man drifting through a life carefully planned by others: a stable but unfulfilling job at a cosmetic clinic, and a wedding to his long-time girlfriend Cindy (Sherman Chan) that feels more like a foregone conclusion than a choice. But when Mike, his childhood best friend and secret first love, suddenly walks back into his life after years of silence, the carefully constructed walls around George’s heart begin to crumble. Mike left without explanation years ago, and now he’s back, openly determined to win George over and reignite the spark they once shared. Caught between a secure future with Cindy and a passionate, uncertain reconnection with Mike, George must finally decide who he really is and what he truly wants. In just six short episodes (totaling about an hour), this Hong Kong indie gem delivers a surprisingly effective emotional punch, balancing bittersweet nostalgia with sharp, witty dialogue and a quiet urgency that will leave you wanting more.

For a series that's barely an hour long, I was genuinely moved. The production values are shockingly good for such a small project—the warm color palette and framing really sell that 'golden' nostalgia. The leads aren't the most electric couple, but their awkwardness actually felt real to me. A lovely little watch that respects your time.

I appreciate what they tried to do with such limited runtime, but the character development is paper-thin and the pacing feels rushed. The main lead, George, is so passive it's hard to root for him. The non-consensual kiss scene was also uncomfortable and felt thrown in for drama without proper setup. Worth a watch if you have an hour to kill, but don't expect depth.

I'm a sucker for second-chance romances and this one hit me right in the feels. The scene where Mike looks at George and says he's not giving up—chills! Yes, it's short, but the chemistry simmered under the surface and I believed every conflicted glance. The fiancée wasn't a one-dimensional villain either, which made the triangle even more painful. A hidden gem that deserves more love.

The emotional core of this story is sweet, but I have concerns about how consent is handled. A forced kiss and a moment where Mike physically restrains George are played as romantic gestures, yet George is clearly conflicted and in a vulnerable position (engaged, closeted). For a drama that aims for poignancy, it needed to be more careful about power dynamics. Still, the acting is decent and the main themes are relatable.

The original soundtrack surprised me—there's a soft piano theme that plays during the flashback scenes that perfectly captures the ache of lost youth. I wish there were a few more songs to flesh out the mood, but what's here works beautifully. The series itself is a quick, melancholic watch; not the most passionate BL out there, but the music elevates the emotional beats.
