What happens when a high school confession gone wrong leads to a seven-year separation, only to reunite in the most unexpected place—a game development company? *Our Dating Sim* is a tender, surprisingly mature Korean BL that proves you don't need a bloated runtime to tell a deeply romantic story. Shin Ki-tae (Lee Seung Gyu) has never forgotten the boy who confessed to him in high school and then vanished without a trace. Now a successful game developer with a sunny, confident demeanor, he channels his lingering feelings into his work. Meanwhile, Lee Wan (Lee Jong Hyuk), the quiet, hardworking illustrator who fled all those years ago, is struggling to make ends meet. When a job opportunity—mysteriously arranged by Ki-tae—lands him at the same company, the two are forced to confront their unresolved past. What unfolds is a beautifully paced, eight-episode journey of reconnection, where every lingering glance, playful tease, and gentle touch rebuilds a bond that was broken by misunderstanding and fear. The drama cleverly frames its narrative through the lens of a dating simulation game, with each episode ending in a charming 'choose your own adventure' style sequence that mirrors Lee Wan's internal choices. There's no over-the-top drama here; instead, the story thrives on authentic communication, palpable chemistry, and the simple joy of two people falling in love all over again. With a runtime of just 15 minutes per episode, *Our Dating Sim* wastes no time on filler, delivering a concentrated dose of sweetness, gentle angst, and heart-fluttering romance that will leave you smiling long after the credits roll.

I am OBSESSED. This is the kind of BL that makes your heart flutter from the very first scene. Ki-tae and Lee Wan's chemistry is off the charts—every time they looked at each other, I screamed into my pillow. The hugs, the teasing, the way Ki-tae just melts whenever Wan is around... it's perfection. And that kiss in episode 5? I rewound it five times. It felt so real, so full of longing. I don't care about the short runtime; they packed more romance in 8 episodes than most dramas do in 16. Easily my comfort drama for life.

I can see why people love this, but for me it's a solid 'good, not great.' The pacing is actually impressive for 15-min episodes—no filler—but the romance does feel rushed. They go from awkward coworkers to a full-blown relationship in what feels like a week. I also found the misunderstanding from high school a little flimsy; a seven-year ghosting over embarrassment? I needed a bit more depth. That said, the acting is strong, especially Lee Seung Gyu, and the ending was satisfying. It's a cute watch, just don't expect a complex narrative.

For a low-budget web drama, the visual direction here is surprisingly polished. The color palette leans warm and soft—lots of golden tones and cozy interiors that match the fluffy mood. I loved how the editing seamlessly blended flashbacks with present scenes, using lighting changes to distinguish timelines. The game UI animations at the end of each episode were a delightful touch, crisp and retro. Even the framing of certain scenes—like the panic attack sequence on the street—was shot with real intention, using handheld camera to convey anxiety. A visual treat for such a short series.

I have to talk about the music because it really elevated the emotions for me. The main instrumental theme is simple but so effective—those soft piano notes during their tender moments? Chills. There's also a song that plays during the climax of episode 7 that perfectly captured the anxiety and relief. No, the OST isn't groundbreaking or super diverse, but it's used sparingly and with great emotional precision. I wish they'd release a full playlist. That said, I knocked a point because some background tracks felt a bit generic. Still, a solid sonic experience.

What a refreshing take on LGBTQ+ romance in a Korean workplace drama. I appreciated that the show didn't rely on the usual homophobic obstacles—instead, the conflict was purely internal and relational. Ki-tae is a wonderful example of a healthy, communicative love interest; he openly expresses his feelings and respects Wan's pace. The one thing I want to flag is the power dynamic: Ki-tae essentially gets Wan a job and becomes his boss. While the drama downplays this (and they're very cute), I wish there was a brief conversation about professional boundaries. Still, a huge step forward for consent and open communication in K-BL.

Since there's no source novel, I'm judging this as a pure BL drama adaptation of common tropes. It hits all the right notes: childhood friends to lovers, forced proximity at work, one confident and one shy lead. But it doesn't innovate beyond that. The 'ghosting and reunion' setup could have had more emotional weight; I felt the high school flashbacks were too brief to justify seven years of heartbreak. I also missed the typical side couple that usually enriches this genre. Still, the execution is solid and the leads are charming. A B+ for a trope-heavy short drama.
