This delightful two-episode spin-off from *Ossan's Love Returns* drops us back into the world of newlyweds Soichi (Haruta) and Ryota (Maki) just as they're settling into domestic life. In the first episode, the couple is called into work on their day off to fix a colleague's mistake, leading to a cozy roundtable where their friends—Takegawa, Maro, and Izumi—reminisce about their own romantic adventures, complete with flashbacks to past dates. The second episode shifts to a warm hot pot party at the couple's home, where the group rehashes wedding mishaps, playfully debates who fell for whom first, and resolves a sweet, minor argument between the leads. Both segments are sprinkled with the series' signature blend of slapstick comedy and tender moments, emphasizing the strong bonds of friendship and the quiet joys of married life. With Maki and Haruta's affectionate banter at the core, this miniseries is a heartfelt treat for fans craving more of their favorite chaotic family.

I squealed through both episodes! Seeing Maki and Haruta just being soft and domestic is everything I wanted. The hot pot party felt like hanging out with old friends, and that little argument about who fell first was too cute. They cut away from a kiss which was annoying but still a perfect fluffy treat.

Look, I get that this is a fan service spin-off, but there's almost no plot—just people sitting around talking about dates. The flashbacks are nice but the pacing drags in episode one. Also, why cut away from the only kiss? That’s a rookie move. Still, fans of the series will enjoy the warm vibes.

The cinematography in these short episodes is surprisingly lovely. The warm lighting during the hot pot dinner makes the apartment feel so inviting, and the flashbacks are color-graded to feel nostalgic. It’s not groundbreaking, but the visual consistency with the main series is pleasing to the eye.

I appreciate how this spin-off normalizes healthy communication between queer couples. Maki and Haruta openly discuss their feelings, apologize after small quarrels, and support each other’s work lives. The side characters also talk about their relationships in a respectful way. It’s a refreshing slice of life without toxic drama.
